KYARA began awkwardly. From wide barriers, TAKNAM, SILVER GRECIAN and FREE JUDGEMENT were all taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1700 Metres, NAVEL ORANGE momentarily raced in restricted room inside BLAZING SPEED. In the early stages, CHATER DREAM was left racing wide and without cover and approaching the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride into a more forward position closer to the rail. After the 1000 Metres, GENKI TWINS was left racing wide and without cover. Rounding the Home Turn, NAVEL ORANGE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BLAZING SPEED. WRATH OF FIRE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 50 Metres, HOT SHOT was steadied away from the heels of BEAUTY LEAD which shifted in slightly. When questioned regarding the performance of TAKNAM, U Rispoli stated that in the middle stages he commenced to ride the horse along to have it improve its position to be closer to the rear of the field. He said he was obliged to niggle at TAKNAM for the majority of the race and to place it under significant pressure after the 600 Metres. He said he continued to ride TAKNAM vigorously in the Straight, however, the horse finished off the race only one-paced. A veterinary inspection of TAKNAM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Y T Cheng stated that near the 1700 Metres FREE JUDGEMENT appeared to lock up behind and became badly unbalanced in its action. He said after this FREE JUDGEMENT did not travel comfortably and after being placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight he eased it down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of FREE JUDGEMENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Having regard to the incident near the 1700 Metres, the performance of FREE JUDGEMENT, which also finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FREE JUDGEMENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GENKI TWINS, K C Leung stated that he had not ridden the horse prior to today’s race. He said GENKI TWINS was left racing three wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres. He said he commenced to ride his mount along after the 700 Metres to prevent BLAZING SPEED from shifting out to his inside, however, GENKI TWINS was not travelling well enough and BLAZING SPEED was able to shift to the outside of BEAUTY LEAD passing the 500 Metres. He said he continued to ride GENKI TWINS along, however, the horse gave ground noticeably and despite being ridden along in the early part of the Straight continued to give ground. He added although the horse was up in grade today and was required to race without cover over the final 1000 Metres, nonetheless it was extremely disappointing given the manner in which it weakened in the Straight. Trainer A Schutz stated that he was at a loss to explain the horse’s performance. He said GENKI TWINS had trained on well since its last run and he had expected a forward showing in today’s race. He said despite the circumstances of the race not favouring GENKI TWINS, nonetheless the horse was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened out of the race from the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of GENKI TWINS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GENKI TWINS, a last start winner and which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GENKI TWINS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was reported that BLAZING SPEED had lost its right front plate and had sustained a laceration to the inside of the right hind fetlock. FREE JUDGEMENT, GENKI TWINS, AKEED MOFEED and KYARA were sent for sampling.
