Shortly after the start, UWILLBEGLORIOUS was crowded for room between HOLLYWOOD KISS and LOVING STAR which shifted out. GREEN MANNER was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY HA HA which was initially taken out by HAPPY CHAMPION which got its head up and began awkwardly. After this, HAPPY CHAMPION again got its head up on a number of occasions in the early stages. HI MOLLY proved difficult to settle in the lead in the early and middle stages. Passing the 900 Metres, RIGHT TIMING became unbalanced and lost ground when momentarily crowded for room inside RACING HERO which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. For the majority of the race, LEO’S PRIDE travelled wide and without cover and finished tailed out. The performance of LEO’S PRIDE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LEO’S PRIDE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to a veterinary inspection of HAPPY HA HA being able to be conducted, the horse collapsed in the examination area. After the race, the Veterinary Office reported that HI MOLLY had lost its left hind plate. Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on UWILLBEGLORIOUS at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, UWILLBEGLORIOUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINNING LEADER and GREEN MANNER were sent for sampling.
