FAIR NAVIGATOR was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, FAIR NAVIGATOR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. HEALTHY FARM began awkwardly. EAGLE REGIMENT was slow to begin. PACKING KID began awkwardly and shifted in, resulting in TREASURE GLITTER being crowded for room outside LUCKY RECORD which itself became unbalanced when bumped by TREASURE GLITTER. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FAIR NAVIGATOR, G Cheyne stated that in the early stages the horse did not show the same speed as it had done in its two most recent starts when successful. He said FAIR NAVIGATOR began only fairly, he rode his mount along in the early stages to have it take up a more forward position, however, despite being ridden along FAIR NAVIGATOR did not pick up and travel into the race as it had done previously. He added that he commenced to ride the horse along vigorously from the 600 Metres to have it travel more kindly, however, at no stage of the race did FAIR NAVIGATOR respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of FAIR NAVIGATOR after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY RECORD after the race did not show any significant findings. THE PRINCE and EAGLE REGIMENT were sent for sampling.
