In the early stages, HAPPY BOY proved very difficult to settle and approaching the 1600 Metres was checked away from the heels of NORTH HILL. After this, HAPPY BOY continued to prove very difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of NORTH HILL which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOARING DRAGON. Near the 1000 Metres, HAPPY BOY was again checked away from the heels of NORTH HILL. Near the 550 Metres, BOUNCER was bumped by ALGARVE which shifted out. HAPPY BOY was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres. Over the final 200 Metres, HAPPY BOY got its head on the side and hung out, resulting in SAPELLI being taken wider. A veterinary inspection of ALGARVE after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse`s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ALGARVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALGARVE, NORTH HILL and HAPPY BOY were sent for sampling.
