On arrival at the Start, it was noted that ULTRA FANTASY had lost its right front plate. ULTRA FANTASY was replated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, CRAIG’S DRAGON kicked a rail. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the start was effected, DYNAMIC BLITZ, which was leaning against the outside of its stall, was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SHINING VICTORY was crowded for room outside SWEET SANETTE which shifted out abruptly before being corrected by its rider. In this incident, SHINING VICTORY made contact with DIM SUM which in turn bumped the hindquarters of SUPER BOY, resulting in SUPER BOY being taken out across the running of CRAIG’S DRAGON (W C Marwing) which was checked when tightened for room inside ULTRA FANTASY. W C Marwing reported that after this interference, CRAIG’S DRAGON was reluctant to stride out and did not travel at any stage of the race. Passing the 800 Metres, NORMAN INVADER was checked away from the heels of NIGHTLIGN. For some distance between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres, SHINING VICTORY and SUPER BOY bumped due to both horses shifting ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ULTRA FANTASY, J Lloyd stated that the horse came off the bit in the early stages and did not travel at any stage thereafter. He said the manner in which ULTRA FANTASY raced indicated to him that it did not handle today’s track conditions. Trainer P F Yiu stated that the horse had pleased him in the lead up to today’s race and agreed with Jockey Lloyd’s assessment that the horse did not handle toady’s track surface. Having in mind the performance of ULTRA FANTASY today compared to its recent form, the Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ULTRA FANTASY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ULTRA FANTASY and CRAIG’S DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. SHINING VICTORY, SWEET SANETTE and NIGHTLIGN were sent for sampling.
