On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to FORTUNE SPIRIT was replaced. Passing the 1100 Metres, MUSTANG was checked and COSMO SUCCESSOR crowded for room inside THE RIFLE which, when proving difficult to settle when being steadied by its rider, got its head up and shifted in away from MASTER RIO (G Mossé). A short distance later, THE RIFLE, which continued to prove very difficult to settle and continued to get its head in the air, was checked away from the heels of MASTER RIO which itself got its head on the side and shifted in away from MILLION DARLING. After having considered all the circumstances of the incident, the Stewards believed that it was appropriate to severely reprimand G Mossé and advise him that whilst THE RIFLE had contributed to the incident, he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground than he did on this occasion. Near the 750 Metres, MUSTANG was steadied away from the heels of COSMO SUCCESSOR which shifted out slightly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THE RIFLE. RED RULER, which was following MUSTANG, was checked to avoid the heels of that horse and became unbalanced. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, SUNSHINE BOY shifted out after being bumped by COSMO SUCCESSOR, resulting in ENGINEERING WONDER being taken wider. For the majority of the race, ENGINEERING WONDER travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. MILLION DARLING, MASTER RIO and FORTUNE SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
