Despite being ridden along in the early stages, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE failed to muster speed. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE and K-JACK bumped when racing tight inside LUCKY WINNER which in turn was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINE WIN. Shortly after this, NATURAL FLAME was steadied away from the heels of K-JACK which shifted in after being bumped by JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE. Near the 800 Metres, YUE LU TREASURE lost its position when crowded for room between GRAND STORE which shifted in slightly and NATURAL FLAME which shifted out momentarily when being steadied away from the heels of K-JACK. GLENEALY STAR and PACKING SUPREME, which were following, were checked in consequence and VALUE CHOICE was hampered. No action was taken. After this incident, PACKING SUPREME, which was over-racing, was then steadied away from the heels of BEAUTIFUL CHOICE. When giving ground in the Straight, GRAND STORE hung in. B Prebble (GLENEALY STAR) explained in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race he was asked to give the horse a chance to settle in the hope it would close the race off. He said GLENEALY STAR when being ridden forward in its recent races whilst performing fairly had been somewhat disappointing in the manner in which it had closed its races off. He said in accordance with his instructions he took hold of GLENEALY STAR on jumping and his mount was then crowded for room inside PACKING SUPREME. He said after entering the Back Straight he shifted GLENEALY STAR to the rail in a rearward position. He said GLENEALY STAR over-raced and would not relax for him. He said after the 700 Metres GLENEALY STAR travelled more kindly, however, was still a little keen. He said he placed GLENEALY STAR under pressure prior to straightening, the horse made gradual ground until just prior to the winning post when he was required to steady his mount while awkwardly placed between LUCKY WINNER and YUE LU TREASURE. He said in his opinion GLENEALY STAR makes too much use of itself in its races at this stage of its career and will be better suited with more experience if it learns to relax in its races. PACKING SUPREME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PACKING SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. NATURAL FLAME and VALUE CHOICE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported YUE LU TREASURE had lost its left front plate.
