SPEED RACER was slow to begin. FANTASTISCH and METRO RIDER both began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. From the outside barrier, TOUCH LUCKY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Apprentice T H So (ACCELERATOR) reported that approximately 200 Metres after the start his saddle shifted to the left side, resulting in him having to attempt to ease the horse out of the race from passing the 700 Metres. Rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, TOUCH LUCKY was taken extremely wide by ACCELERATOR which shifted out when its saddle shifted further. In this incident, FORTUNE KING was steadied away from the heels of ACCELERATOR on the Home Turn. TREASURE RAIDERS hung out making the Home Turn and then in the Straight raced with its head on the side. D Whyte was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of WIND KNIGHT. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily during the race, but then did not respond to his riding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of WIND KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. SPICY SHRIMP and SPEED RACER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that SPICY SHRIMP and FULL PACK had both lost their left front plates.
