MAKE IT was slow to begin. SUPREME TYCOON began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out and bumped LEADING CITY. From the outside barrier, SAMMY’S FALCON was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. At the 1000 Metres, ROYAL DOCTOR, which had initially drawn to the outside of CARISSIMA (H W Lai) and which had improved to be racing into tight running between SUPREME TYCOON and CARISSIMA, was checked when crowded for room between those horses as a result of CARISSIMA shifting in slightly. As the Stewards were of the opinion that ROYAL DOCTOR was advancing into tight running, no further action was taken, however, H W Lai was advised to ensure that he is clear of other horses when shifting ground. In this incident, ROYAL DOCTOR bumped the hindquarters of SUPREME TYCOON on a number of occasions, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. Over the final 200 Metres, MAKE IT got its head on the side and hung in. O Doleuze (TOP NEWS) dropped his whip near the 50 Metres. When questioned, B Doyle (OPEN SESAME) stated that shortly after entering the Straight, a narrow run presented itself between SUPREME TYCOON and CARISSIMA. He said at that time he did not consider advancing into that run as it was felt that it was a tight run and that the interests of OPEN SESAME would be best served by shifting to the outside of CARISSIMA into clear running to follow ROYAL DOCTOR through. He stated that at no stage was OPEN SESAME held up for clear running. LEADING CITY and TOPPING LIGHT were sent for sampling.
