LITTLE GENERAL shifted out at the start and hampered RAZOR QUEST and DASHING DART which both became unbalanced after bumping. After this, from the outside barriers, RAZOR QUEST and DASHING DART were shifted across behind runners. Also from a wide barrier, SUNNY POWER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. SHANGHAI DRAGON shifted out shortly after the start and bumped the hindquarters of C P POWER. Near the 1550 Metres, A Domeyer (LITTLE GENERAL) adjusted his left foot in the stirrup iron. After travelling a short distance, GREAT TREASURE and SHANGHAI DRAGON raced tight between BELLAGIO and C P POWER which shifted in. Then near the 1500 Metres, SHANGHAI DRAGON became unbalanced after bumping C P POWER and consequently shifted out abruptly, resulting in C P POWER being hampered. CIRCUIT THREE, which was racing to the outside of C P POWER, shifted out away from that horse and bumped DOR DOR, resulting in CIRCUIT THREE and DOR DOR both becoming unbalanced. When C P POWER was taken out by SHANGHAI DRAGON, TOUCH OF LUCK was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After the 1000 Metres, DASHING DART got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FRIENDS OF NANJING which was being steadied to obtain cover behind CIRCUIT THREE. Also after the 1000 Metres, RAZOR QUEST got its head up when travelling keenly. Passing the 800 Metres, DASHING DART got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FRIENDS OF NANJING. Near the 450 Metres, C P POWER was shifted out away from the heels of CIRCUIT THREE after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. Near the 150 Metres, FLASH FAMOUS raced tight inside BELLAGIO which lay in when awkwardly placed inside SAM’S LOVE. Throughout the race, LITTLE GENERAL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, G van Niekerk (GREAT TREASURE) stated that near the 850 Metres GREAT TREASURE was crowded for room between LITTLE GENERAL and BELLAGIO, both of which shifted ground. He said after this GREAT TREASURE got its head on the side and lay out and he was very awkwardly placed inside the heels of LITTLE GENERAL which was racing in a tight three wide position. He said he called on a number of occasions in the middle stages to ensure that other riders were aware of his position as GREAT TREASURE was awkwardly placed between LITTLE GENERAL and BELLAGIO which was commencing to shift out. He said because LITTLE GENERAL was shifting out, he attempted to shift to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running rounding the Home Turn, however, CIRCUIT THREE improved its position to be racing tight outside GREAT TREASURE and he was therefore not able to shift to the outside of LITTLE GENERAL at this stage. He added as he was attempting to shift to the outside of LITTLE GENERAL, TOUCH OF LUCK was then able to improve its position to be racing between GREAT TREASURE and BELLAGIO. G van Niekerk was advised that the Stewards accepted that GREAT TREASURE was laying out approaching and passing the 600 Metres which placed that horse in an awkward position, however, he was told to ensure that he maintains his position wherever circumstances permit. When questioned, U Rispoli (BELLAGIO) stated that after obtaining a trailing position behind the leader SHANGHAI DRAGON, BELLAGIO travelled too keenly in the early and middle stages. He said after the 500 Metres he commenced to shift out from behind SHANGHAI DRAGON to follow SAM’S LOVE as he was instructed to make his run to the outside of horses if possible. He said as he was shifting out, he heard a number of calls to his outside and for this reason he had two looks to his outside at the 500 Metres to establish whether he was clear of runners to shift out. He said as he was shifting out to follow SAM’S LOVE, TOUCH OF LUCK improved its position quickly to be racing outside the heels of BELLAGIO. He said as he was shifting to the outside of SAM’S LOVE at the entrance to the Straight, that horse shifted out away from SHANGHAI DRAGON which placed him in an awkward position behind SAM’S LOVE, particularly given that TOUCH OF LUCK had been able to quickly improve its position to his outside. He said passing the 400 Metres room still remained to improve between SAM’S LOVE and TOUCH OF LUCK, however, BELLAGIO got its head on the side and hung in away from TOUCH OF LUCK across the heels of SAM’S LOVE. He added BELLAGIO had previously hung in in a number of its races and the horse did so again today. He said after being disappointed for running between SAM’S LOVE and TOUCH OF LUCK, he then shifted to the inside of SAM’S LOVE to follow SHANGHAI DRAGON, however, BELLAGIO did not quicken and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race when continuing to lay in under pressure. After considering all the circumstances relative to U Rispoli’s riding of BELLAGIO, particularly after the 600 Metres, and having in mind the manner in which the horse then failed to finish off the race in the Straight, the Stewards advised U Rispoli that his riding of BELLAGIO rounding the Home Turn had come under notice. He was told to ensure that he rides his mounts in an assertive manner so that he is able to avail himself of clear running and in accordance with his instructions wherever appropriate circumstances permit. A veterinary inspection of BELLAGIO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. TOUCH OF LUCK and SHANGHAI DRAGON were sent for sampling. <27/5/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>BELLAGIO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. BELLAGIO was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BELLAGIO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SUPER ELEGANCE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of WILLIE WAY. SUPER ELEGANCE was then steadied when crowded for room between WILLIE WAY and VINCY which was taken out by RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE. SUPER HERO was slow to begin. SPLENDOUR AND GOLD shifted in at the start and bumped GENERAL SHERMAN. After the 1500 Metres and again passing the 1000 Metres, SPLENDOUR AND GOLD got its head up when racing keenly. After the 1300 Metres, RED ELYSEES was left racing wide and without cover and was consequently allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead approaching the 1000 Metres. Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, SUPER ELEGANCE travelled keenly. Near the 650 Metres, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE was taken wider by SPLENDOUR AND GOLD which shifted out away from the heels of CHAMPION SUPREME. After the 600 Metres, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE, SPLENDOUR AND GOLD and CHAMPION SUPREME raced tight as I DO shifted to the outside of RED ELYSEES to improve. Near the 500 Metres, CHAMPION SUPREME raced tight inside SPLENDOUR AND GOLD. DEFINING MOMENT was held up and unable to improve rounding the Home Turn. Near the 150 Metres, SUPER ELEGANCE was held up for clear running and was shifted out away from the heels of RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE. When questioned, R Bayliss (CHAMPION SUPREME) stated that he was asked, from the wide barrier, to obtain a position in about midfield with cover if possible. He said it was explained to him that the connections felt that horses racing in the back half of the field had not been advantaged in the earlier races and that if the horse got too far out of its ground, there were a number of horses which would not be able to take his horse into the race. He said he was therefore asked to have CHAMPION SUPREME in midfield and hoped that the circumstances of the race provided the horse with the opportunity to obtain cover. He said he was initially able to obtain cover behind RED ELYSEES in a three wide midfield position, however, when that horse then pressed forward to race outside the lead, CHAMPION SUPREME was left racing wide and without cover at the 1000 Metres. A veterinary inspection of RED ELYSEES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHAMPION SUPREME, SPLENDOUR AND GOLD and I DO were sent for sampling.

KASI FARASI began awkwardly and lost ground. KASI FARASI was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead, however, travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. COT CAMPBELL began only fairly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of REGENCY BO BO. As the start was effected, GOLD CHEST lifted its front feet off the ground and as a result began only fairly. From a wide barrier, PERFECT GLORY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. SEERITE DRAGON was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1000 Metres, REGENCY BO BO raced tight inside FAST MOST FURIOUS (Z Purton) which shifted in. Z Purton was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he does not place undue pressure on other runners. Then near the 900 Metres, FAST MOST FURIOUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA WHIP and shifted out away from behind that horse. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, REGENCY BO BO got its head up on a number of occasions when travelling keenly. Approaching the 800 Metres, PERFECT GLORY got its head up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of EASY GO EASY WIN. HEZTHEWONFORUS lay out rounding the Home Turn. Passing the 200 Metres, KASI FARASI and CALIFORNIA WHIP raced tight. Near the 50 Metres, STYLING CITY shifted in away from FAST MOST FURIOUS and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of HEZTHEWONFORUS (J Moreira) which then shifted out, resulting in STYLING CITY having to be steadied. J Moreira was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that STYLING CITY had initially lay in towards the heels of HEZTHEWONFORUS, he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts. HEZTHEWONFORUS lost its left front plate over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding his riding out of FAST MOST FURIOUS over the concluding stages, Z Purton stated that after shifting to the outside of KASI FARASI passing the 400 Metres, FAST MOST FURIOUS commenced to quicken well. He said however that near the 300 Metres FAST MOST FURIOUS commenced to lay in and for this reason he changed his whip over into his right hand. He said when being ridden out passing the 200 Metres FAST MOST FURIOUS commenced to hang in, however, as he was aware that he was clear of runners to his inside, he was able to continue to ride the horse whilst it shifted in. He said FAST MOST FURIOUS continued to hang in under pressure and he continued to allow the horse to shift in as he was aware that STYLING CITY was a number of horses away from FAST MOST FURIOUS. He said however near the 50 Metres FAST MOST FURIOUS continued to hang in towards STYLING CITY and as he was aware that STYLING CITY was racing to his inside, he felt that if he continued to ride the horse out in the same manner, he may cause interference to that horse. He said for this reason he stopped riding FAST MOST FURIOUS with the whip whilst continuing to ride the horse out as he attempted to straighten FAST MOST FURIOUS. He said at this time he was concerned that STYLING CITY was racing very close to the heels of FAST MOST FURIOUS, he felt that had he not have attempted to straighten his mount FAST MOST FURIOUS would have shifted in across the rightful running of STYLING CITY and because of this he was not able to ride FAST MOST FURIOUS out close to the finishing line as he normally would. After viewing the videos, the Stewards accepted Z Purton’s explanation. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE STEED immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE STEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HEZTHEWONFORUS and FAST MOST FURIOUS were sent for sampling.
