CASA LEGEND was slow to begin and then blundered shortly after the start. On jumping, SPARKY STAR was checked when crowded between COMMANDING MISSILE which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider and LORIZ which was taken in by REGENT GLORY which shifted in before being corrected by its rider, K Teetan. BIG TWO jumped only fairly and was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. COPARTNER PUDONG jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start, FLYING MOJITO was crowded by WAR OF COURAGE and as a result was steadied. Approaching the 1200 Metres, COMMANDING MISSILE raced tight to outside of LORIZ for a short distance before LORIZ was corrected by its rider, B Avdulla. B Avdulla was reprimanded. In this incident, COMMANDING MISSILE made contact with CHARMANDER, resulting in CHARMANDER becoming unbalanced. Passing the 900 Metres, SPARKY STAR lay in and made contact with the running rail when racing tight to the inside of COPARTNER PUDONG. Near the 800 Metres, SPARKY STAR was then steadied when crowded by COPARTNER PUDONG (L Currie) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. L Currie was reprimanded. Near the 300 Metres, REGENT GLORY was shifted to the outside of I GIVE and WAR OF COURAGE to secure clear running. Near the 200 Metres, BIG TWO raced tight to the inside of I GIVE when improving inside that runner. Near the 150 Metres, M Chadwick (RED HARE KING) dropped his right rein for a number of strides before regathering it. Near the 100 Metres, REGENT GLORY (K Teetan) was checked when crowded between WAR OF COURAGE and COMMANDING MISSILE which, after being taken in by RED HARE KING (M Chadwick), then shifted in away from that runner before being corrected by its rider, L Hewitson. M Chadwick was reprimanded. In determining not to issue a careless riding charge against Jockey Chadwick, the Stewards were mindful that he had lost his right rein as this incident was occurring and he was endeavouring to regather that rein and also that K Teetan had also lost his left rein for a short distance as he endeavoured to take hold of his mount. After the race, B Avdulla reported that LORIZ was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the Straight and did not respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of LORIZ immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to its right front leg. After the race, it was reported that WAR OF COURAGE had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of CHARMANDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CASA LEGEND, LUCKY GOLD and FLYING MOJITO were sent for sampling.
