WONDER YEARS was slow to begin. On jumping, MANAGEMENT FOLKS was hampered when crowded for room between DEAR SIBLING which shifted in and HAPPY ANGEL which was taken out by REGENCY MASTER. A short distance later, MANAGEMENT FOLKS was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY ANGEL when that runner shifted out further, resulting in MANAGEMENT FOLKS then being shifted across behind runners in the early stages. STARSHIP EIGHTY jumped only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Shortly after the start, SUPERB DADDY was crowded for room between AI ONE and REACH GOAL which was taken out by FOREVER GLORIOUS. DEAR SIBLING lost its left hind plate near the 2000 Metres. REACH GOLD raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1800 Metres got its head up when being restrained away from the heels of REGENCY MASTER. HAPPY ANGEL raced wide and without cover in the early stages until it improved forward near the 1400 Metres to race outside the lead. When caught wide in the early stages, BLASTOISE was steadied near the 1400 Metres to obtain a position with cover. Near the 400 Metres, K Teetan (VINCY) dropped his right rein for a short distance. Making the Home Turn and again near the 250 Metres, REACH GOAL shifted out and bumped MANAGEMENT FOLKS, resulting in MANAGEMENT FOLKS being taken wider. Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres, FOREVER GLORIOUS had some difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind AI ONE. After the race, M Chadwick reported that after entering the Back Straight near the 1000 Metres he commenced to endeavour to make a forward move on WONDER YEARS, however, WONDER YEARS did not respond well to his urgings and particularly with the stepping up in grade tonight was unable to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of WONDER YEARS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
