WINNING VOLATILITY shifted out on jumping and brushed HYPERION TREE. ASIAN ONE began only fairly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MANNA FROM HEAVEN which became unbalanced. SWOT TROOPERS WIND shifted in at the start and bumped RED IMPACT. MURRAY’S PARTNERS began only fairly. From a wide barrier, SMART PATCH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MANNA FROM HEAVEN was steadied when crowded for room between FULL POWER which remained racing away from the rail and RED IMPACT which, after shifting in of its own accord, then raced tight inside SWOT TROOPERS WIND which shifted in. Then passing the winning post on the first occasion, RED IMPACT raced tight inside the heels of SWOT TROOPERS WIND. Near the 600 Metres, RED IMPACT raced tight between FULL POWER and OFF THE REEL which lay in. In the early part of the Straight, RED IMPACT got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Passing the 300 Metres, TAILOR MADE raced tight outside ASIAN ONE as that horse improved into restricted room between TAILOR MADE and MANNA FROM HEAVEN. After the 300 Metres, OFF THE REEL got its head on the side and lay in. When questioned, H Bentley stated that he was instructed to obtain a position in about midfield on TAILOR MADE. He said after beginning well he was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN when shifting his mount across behind that horse. He said passing the 1600 Metres he was racing outside ASIAN ONE and HYPERION TREE and he considered allowing his mount to improve forward of HYPERION TREE in the hope of being able to obtain a position closer to the rail, however, at this time MANNA FROM HEAVEN was being steadied by its rider which resulted in HYPERION TREE racing directly behind that horse. He said when racing three wide after the 1600 Metres, he elected to steady his mount and obtain a position behind HYPERION TREE, however, by the time he was able to position TAILOR MADE to do this, SMART PATCH was able to improve its position to be racing behind HYPERION TREE and this resulted in TAILOR MADE being left racing in a three wide position and further back in the field than had been intended. He added that TAILOR MADE was then required to race without cover after the 1400 Metres and because of this was not able to finish the race off strongly over the latter stages. After the race, Z Purton stated that after having to ride his mount along in the early stages to clear runners to the inside, RED IMPACT then travelled keenly during the race and would not relax as he had hoped. He said, in his opinion, this accounted for the horse not being able to finish the race off as had been anticipated. A veterinary inspection of RED IMPACT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of WINNING VOLATILITY, SWOT TROOPERS WIND and TAILOR MADE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RED IMPACT, OFF THE REEL and LUCKY DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
