At declaration time, M L Yeung was declared as the rider of both SHADOW BREAKER and UNIVERSAL HERO. It was established that M L Yeung had a firm commitment to ride SHADOW BREAKER. As such, the Stewards permitted R Maia to be substituted as the rider of UNIVERSAL HERO. For this declaration error, M L Yeung was fined $2,000. SHADOW BREAKER turned its head to the left as the start was effected and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SHADOW BREAKER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. KUNGFUMASTER PANDA was tightened for room on jumping between YEE CHEONG WARRIOR and NEARLY FINE which shifted out. UNIVERSAL HERO and SPEED FAY FAY bumped at the start. From a wide barrier, SHINY ONE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1300 Metres, NEARLY FINE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN which was being steadied to obtain cover. Also approaching the 1300 Metres, FULL POWER got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN. After the 900 Metres, FLASH FAMOUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VIVA POPCORN. After this, FLASH FAMOUS was allowed to improve its position and near the 600 Metres was taken wider by NEARLY FINE which shifted out away from the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN. Approaching the 200 Metres, FULL POWER was steadied when disappointed for running inside SHENRON which was taken in by SPEED FAY FAY (C L Chau). As the Stewards were not satisfied to the necessary degree that FULL POWER had established running to the inside of SHENRON, they elected not to proceed to a charge of careless riding against Jockey Chau, however, he was reprimanded and told that he should have reacted quicker to SPEED FAY FAY shifting ground and made the necessary endeavours to straighten SPEED FAY FAY sooner than he did on this occasion. Over the final 200 Metres, NEARLY FINE shifted out a number of horses under pressure. Passing the 150 Metres, MANNA FROM HEAVEN raced tight outside KUNGFUMASTER PANDA which improved into tight running between MANNA FROM HEAVEN and SPEED FAY FAY. After the race, it was reported that UNIVERSAL HERO had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of SHADOW BREAKER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. VIVA POPCORN, KUNGFUMASTER PANDA and NEARLY FINE were sent for sampling.
