NEW ELEGANCE and BULLISH GLORY made contact soon after jumping. Soon after passing the 300 Metres, SUNNY POWER was hampered when awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLASTOISE (K Teetan) which shifted out when placed under pressure. K Teetan was reprimanded and advised to exercise far more care in similar circumstances. Between the 100 Metres and the 50 Metres, K Teetan had difficulty pulling the whip on BLASTOISE due to the whip becoming entangled in the horse’s mane and the reins. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on INDIGENOUS STAR, M Chadwick stated that in pre-race discussions with connections it was decided that it would be best to ride INDIGENOUS STAR with cover and to achieve this, it would most likely result in the horse settling towards the rear of the field. He said it was felt that were INDIGENOUS STAR be ridden in a forward position and be left racing without cover, the horse had shown a tendency in the past not to finish off when ridden in this manner. He added that when he rode INDIGENOUS STAR in a recent barrier trial the horse was ridden with cover and closed off pleasingly which reinforced the view that it would be best ridden patiently today. He said although INDIGENOUS STAR was momentarily impeded for a run between NEW ELEGANCE and GORGEOUS AGAIN approaching the 150 Metres, he felt the horse was disappointing in that it was very one-paced in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of NEW ELEGANCE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NEW ELEGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS AGAIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. CROWN AVENUE and BLASTOISE were sent for sampling.
