CALIFORNIA ARGENT began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between JUMBO PRIZE which shifted in initially and HARRIER JET which then shifted out. When racing very wide, MAGIC LEGEND was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover. JOYFUL UNION was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, SPARKLING DRAGON failed to muster speed. Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, GALLANT RETURN and JUMBO PRIZE raced tight due to both horses shifting ground. STAR LUCK made the turn near the 1050 Metres awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in SHINING GEM being inconvenienced. Near the 900 Metres, SHINING ACE (J Moreira) shifted in and crowded HARRIET JET momentarily. After SHINING ACE was shifted out to relieve the tightening to HARRIER JET, HARRIER JET was again crowded for room near the 850 Metres between SHINING ACE and SHINING GEM which shifted out away from the heels of GALLANT RETURN. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. SPARKLING DRAGON, which was racing outside HARRIER JET, was inconvenienced in consequence. Then after the 700 Metres, HARRIER JET was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 500 Metres, SHINING GEM raced in restricted room between BUOYANT BOY and HARRIER JET. Passing the 300 Metres, GALLANT RETURN was shifted in away from the heels of STAR LUCK. GALLANT RETURN then raced in restricted room inside STAR LUCK passing the 250 Metres. After the race, HARRIER JET was found to have blood at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination of HARRIER JET found that horse not to have bled. A veterinary inspection of STAR LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. JUMBO PRIZE, SPARKLING DRAGON and BUOYANT BOY were sent for sampling.
