At the time of declaration, C Schofield notified a probable overweight of 1 lb in respect of MERRYGOWIN’s allocated weight of 114 lbs. C Schofield then weighed out 2 lbs overweight and on return to scale was found to have weighed in at 117 lbs. As Jockey Schofield weighed in 2 lbs over the weight notified at the time of declaration, he was fined the sum of $7,000. MERRYGOWIN shifted out at the start and bumped PHANTOM FALCON. WHO ELSE BUT YOU began only fairly and then when being ridden along to make up lost ground was crowded for room between ARM RUNDA and BLAZE STAMINA, both of which shifted ground. After this, WHO ELSE BUT YOU continued to be ridden along, however, failed to muster speed and consequently raced back in the field. Shortly after the start, SUNNY DRAGON got its head up. From the outside barrier, FLYING TOURBILLON was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. After travelling a short distance, MERRYGOWIN momentarily raced tight between PHANTOM FALCON and STAR OF JOY which shifted out. Rounding the Home Turn, VICTORY MARVEL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING MORTAR. At the 250 Metres, MERRYGOWIN was shifted in abruptly away from the heels of KING MORTAR which was giving ground. Passing the 200 Metres, SLEEP EDUCATION was shifted to the inside of VICTORY MARVEL to obtain clear running. Passing the 50 Metres, STAR OF JOY and BLAZE STAMINA raced tight between PHANTOM FALCON which lay out under pressure and ARM RUNDA which shifted in. In the Straight, PHANTOM FALCON lay out under pressure and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, BLAZE STAMINA travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of WHO ELSE BUT YOU immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KING MORTAR immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. ARM RUNDA and PHANTOM FALCON were sent for sampling. <21/12/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>KING MORTAR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse had bled from both nostrils. KING MORTAR was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, KING MORTAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
