When proceeding to the Start, Apprentice C Y Lui was dislodged from SUPER FRESH. Apprentice Lui quickly remounted and proceeded to the Start. When being restrained in the early stages in order to be taken across behind runners from a wide barrier, GOLDEN BAUHINIA got its head up on a number of occasions. GENUINE CHAMPION began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of CHARITY JOY which became unbalanced. In the early stages, EASTERN PROMISE got its head on the side, shifted in away from CHARITY JOY and in doing so raced tight with FUN ‘N’ GAMES after the 900 Metres. Then near the 800 Metres, after initially being taken out by MASTER AETIUS, FUN ‘N’ GAMES shifted out further and bumped EASTERN PROMISE. Approaching the 600 Metres, FUN ‘N’ GAMES was left racing wide and without cover and making the turn after the 600 Metres was taken very wide by MASTER AETIUS which got its head on the side and hung out badly. When being taken wider, FUN ‘N’ GAMES became unbalanced after being bumped on a number of occasions by MASTER AETIUS. The racing manners of MASTER AETIUS were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER AETIUS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Over the concluding stages, EASTERN PROMISE was not able to be ridden out after getting its head on the side, shifting in and being awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENUINE CHAMPION which, when closing off the race strongly, was checked away from the heels of ST YAZIN when badly held up for clear running behind that horse. Because of this, GENUINE CHAMPION was not able to be ridden out right to the end of the race. When questioned, Trainer Y S Tsui stated that as he anticipated that there were quite a number of horses which would be ridden to obtain forward positions in the early stages which were drawn inside GOLDEN BAUHINIA, he instructed K Teetan, the rider of that horse, from barrier 11, to take the horse across behind runners and obtain a position with cover behind midfield if possible. He said GOLDEN BAUHINIA, which was up in grade tonight, had shown speed in its races but generally this had been when the horse had been more favourably drawn. He said as he anticipated that tonight’s race would be run at a fast tempo, he did not believe that GOLDEN BAUHINIA would have sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside and because of that he was concerned that if GOLDEN BAUHINIA were to be ridden for speed in the early stages, there was a strong likelihood it would be left racing very wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of FUN ‘N’ GAMES, MASTER AETIUS and SIGHT BELIEVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHARITY JOY and ST YAZIN were sent for sampling.
