Whilst being saddled, DAN EXCEL became fractious. DAN EXCEL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. XTENSION shifted in at the start and bumped BLAZING SPEED. At the 400 Metres, REAL SPECIALIST was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLAZING SPEED which attempted to shift to the outside of PURE CHAMPION. Near the 150 Metres, BLAZING SPEED was crowded for room between PURE CHAMPION and REAL SPECIALIST which, after initially being taken in slightly by XTENSION before it was corrected by its rider, then shifted in further away from that horse. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider error associated with this incident, no further action was taken. When questioned regarding the performance of BLAZING SPEED, M Chadwick stated that, in his opinion, the horse was somewhat disappointing in that it did not show the same turn of foot that it had shown in its recent runs. He said BLAZING SPEED finished off the race only one-paced and he felt that this may be attributable to the fact that the horse had a tough run at its last start which may have had an adverse effect on its run today. A veterinary inspection of BLAZING SPEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOLD-FUN and HELENE SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
