Just prior to the start being effected, MULTIVICTORY kicked out of the back gates, resulting in the horse beginning awkwardly. MULTIVICTORY was then bumped shortly after the start by NOBLE BOY which shifted out. ALWAYS SOMETHING was slow to begin. From wide barriers, KICK SERVE and MAGNANIMOUS were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. At the 1100 Metres, MULTIVICTORY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ELECTRONIC FORTUNE. In the early part of the Straight, ELECTRONIC FORTUNE got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. After the 150 Metres, ELEGANCE KLAMMER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ELECTRONIC FORTUNE which continued to lay in under pressure. After the 50 Metres, THE UNTOUCHABLELAD raced in restricted room between MULTIVICTORY and FIGHTING BOY. Just prior to the finishing line, MULTIVICTORY was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE BOY which shifted in. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that he had been instructed to ride ELEGANCE KLAMMER in about 4th or 5th position if possible. He said it was anticipated that EMPEROR CLAUDIUS would lead and either MULTIVICTORY or ELECTRONIC FORTUNE would take up forward positions which may provide ELEGANCE KLAMMER with cover. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion he crossed FLYING ELITE to obtain a position outside EMPEROR CLAUDIUS and he immediately steadied his mount with a view to having another horse improve its position around ELEGANCE KLAMMER. He said however that when this did not occur, ELEGANCE KLAMMER was left racing just off the leader, EMPEROR CLAUDIUS without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of EMPEROR CLAUDIUS over the concluding stages, W C Marwing stated that his mount had its head on the side and was laying in under pressure. He said he observed UWILLBEGLORIOUS, which was positioned to the outside of EMPEROR CLAUDIUS, laying in slightly under pressure and he was concerned that that horse would continue to shift in which would cause interference to EMPEROR CLAUDIUS. He said for this reason he did not continue to ride his horse out over the concluding stages. W C Marwing was advised that whilst EMPEROR CLAUDIUS was still able to retain 4th placing, he should ensure that he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. A veterinary inspection of KICK SERVE and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING ELITE and ELECTRONIC FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
