Steward Report Predict Pace Map
On arrival at the Start, CARRY THE ZEAL had its left front plate refitted. CARRY THE ZEAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the start was effected, SUNNY FAY lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground. Shortly after the start, TURF MAGIC was crowded for room between CARRY THE ZEAL which was taken in by LONGWAH SUPREME and SUNNY FAY which was taken out by RUMBA KING. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of C Y Ho (GREEN ZONE), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned, T Clark stated that prior to the race he had discussed the manner in which NEW GLORY should be ridden and it was agreed that it would be best if NEW GLORY was positioned away from the rail as it raced well at its last start when ridden outside the lead. He said making the first turn when racing in the lead, he was in the order of a length in front of SHAHJEE which was positioned to his inside on the rail. He said as he was of the belief that the race was being run at a good tempo and having in mind the pre-race discussions with Mr C W Chang, the trainer of the horse, he believed hat it would not be in the best interests of NEW GLORY to attempt to cross SHAHJEE as he would have had to make considerable use of the horse given the fact that the horse was already running at a quick tempo. A veterinary inspection of LONGWAH SUPREME immediately following the race revealed the horse to have sustained wounds to both stifles. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY FAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SHAHJEE and RUMBA KING were sent for sampling.
