GO BABY GO, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ABLE SPEED. Shortly after the start, FREDERICK ENGELS was checked and VITAL FLYER and EAGLE REGIMENT crowded for room between FLYING COLOURS and AMBER SKY (M Chadwick) which shifted out after bumping with LUCKY NINE. As the Stewards were satisfied that M Chadwick made every endeavour to prevent his mount from shifting out, no further action was taken. At the 800 Metres, VITAL FLYER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EAGLE REGIMENT which shifted in. At the 400 Metres, VITAL FLYER became unbalanced and near the 300 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING COLOURS and BEST ELEVEN which shifted out. Near the 100 Metres, GO BABY GO was steadied when crowded for room between CERISE CHERRY and JOY AND FUN (G Mossé) which shifted in when hanging. G Mossé was severely reprimanded and advised that, notwithstanding that JOY AND FUN was hanging in, he should have made a far greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground than he did on this occasion. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FLYING COLOURS had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of CERISE CHERRY and GO BABY GO after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY NINE, EAGLE REGIMENT and FREDERICK ENGELS were sent for sampling.
