As the start was effected, TIPPERARY DAVOR lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground. REAL DRAGON began awkwardly. WINNING BEAR was slow to begin. From the outside barriers, TWIN TURBO, SURROUNDED and HEALTHY BLUEBERRY were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance approaching the 1200 Metres, SUISSE D’OR proved very difficult to settle and approaching the 1100 Metres got its head up and was checked away from the heels of HINYUEN PALADIN. GOLD FORTUNE and TIPPERARY DAVOR, which were following, were hampered in consequence. SURROUNDED, which was following TIPPERARY DAVOR and which had for some distance been proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. HEALTHY BLUEBERRY, which was following SURROUNDED, was obliged to be shifted out away from the heels of that horse and in doing so crowded the racing room of TWIN TURBO inside PRINCE OF SUNSHINE. For some distance after this, SURROUNDED continued to prove difficult to settle. In the early part of the Straight, SURROUNDED had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 250 Metres, HINYUEN PALADIN got its head on the side, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of BOSAMBO which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, HINYUEN PALADIN was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FULGURITE. Throughout the race, REAL DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HINYUEN PALADIN had lost its right front plate. A veterinary inspection of WINNING BEAR and BOSAMBO after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SUISSE D’OR including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUISSE D’OR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FULGURITE, PRINCE OF SUNSHINE and REAL DRAGON were sent for sampling.
