GURUS DREAM was checked at the start when crowded for room between GOOD BOY BOY and NEW GLORY which shifted out. In this incident, GURUS DREAM bumped the hindquarters of GOOD BOY BOY which became unbalanced. ST YAZIN was crowded for room at the start between ROMAN SOLDIER and BOULD MOVER, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start, ROMAN SOLDIER, ST YAZIN and BOULD MOVER raced tight outside STRAIGHT GOLD which itself was taken out by RICH TAPESTRY which got its head on the side and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Approaching the 800 Metres, ROMAN SOLDIER was steadied when crowded for room outside ST YAZIN which got its head on the side and shifted out away from BOULD MOVER. M Chadwick (AMBER SKY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of BOULD MOVER, causing that horse to be checked and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled and in turn to be taken in onto RICH UNICORN which also was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 17 January 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 9 January 2013. In addition, M Chadwick was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. During the race, GO BABY GO got its head on the side and was inclined to lay out. When questioned regarding the performance of AMBER SKY, M Chadwick stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages. He said he placed the horse under pressure after the 400 Metres and it initially responded well to his riding. He said however that when headed by GO BABY GO to its inside, AMBER SKY commenced to come under heavy pressure and lay in which is unusual for the horse. He added that in the run to the line AMBER SKY finished off the race only one-paced and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of AMBER SKY after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMBER SKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that he had been asked to ride GURUS DREAM where it was comfortable and to produce the horse near the 300 Metres as it was racing today first up since 6 February 2012. He said after being checked when crowded for room at the start, GURUS DREAM settled towards the rear of the field. He said GURUS DREAM travelled well in the middle stages and after the 400 Metres improved its position to be racing behind GOOD BOY BOY. He said at the 300 Metres he shifted GURUS DREAM to the inside of GOOD BOY BOY and the horse then finished off the race well given the circumstances. A veterinary inspection of GURUS DREAM after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GOOD BOY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. AMBER SKY, GO BABY GO and STRAIGHT GOLD were sent for sampling.
