From the outside barrier, WINNING INSTINCT was slow to begin and was then taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1300 Metres, HEART WOOD was steadied away from the heels of SUPER CAGA (K C Leung) which shifted in when not properly clear. K C Leung was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Near the 1100 Metres, PLENTIFUL was crowded for room between ENDURING which was racing tight inside CHANCELLOR and SUNNY FAY which shifted out. After the 300 Metres, SUNNY FAY had difficulty obtaining clear running and for some distance following this raced in restricted room between ABSOLUTE FANTASY and HEART WOOD which shifted out. Passing the 100 Metres, TOM’S EIGHTH was steadied when disappointed for running between ABSOLUTE FANTASY and HAPPY HA HA. After the race, B Prebble (DANCE FOR GOLD) stated that his mount did not handle today’s track conditions. A veterinary inspection of DANCE FOR GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PLENTIFUL had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY FAY after the race did not show any significant findings. DANCE FOR GOLD, PLENTIFUL and SUPER CAGA were sent for sampling.
