From the outside barrier, TIME AFTER TIME was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. GROOVY shifted out at the start and made contact with the hindquarters of REGENCY LUCK which became badly unbalanced and in turn shifted out, causing GOOD WORDS to also become unbalanced. Approaching the 1000 Metres, GROOVY was momentarily crowded for room inside TAI SING YEH. Then approaching the 900 Metres, GROOVY was steadied away from the heels of TAI SING YEH (Apprentice K C Ng) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Ng was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Rounding the Home Turn, GERONIMO MEADOW became unbalanced when crowded for room between GROOVY and TAI SING YEH which shifted out. TAI SING YEH was then corrected by its rider to relieve the tightening to GERONIMO MEADOW. In this incident, GERONIMO MEADOW made contact with the hindquarters of GROOVY, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Apprentice Ng was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in future. Near the 100 Metres, REGENCY LUCK was bumped by GOOD WORDS which shifted out after being brushed by BEST ELEVEN. Then over the concluding stages, REGENCY LUCK raced in restricted room between GOOD WORDS and COSMIC BOOM. Throughout the race, COSMIC BOOM travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Whyte stated that NEW VISION travelled well in about a midfield position. He said rounding the Home Turn he considered shifting NEW VISION to the outside of FLYING COLOURS, however, that horse did not improve into the race as he had wished and therefore he remained racing to the inside of that horse. He said he placed NEW VISION under pressure in the early part of the Straight, however, the horse got its head up and was reluctant to stretch out. He added he continued to ride NEW VISION along, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of NEW VISION after the race did not show any significant findings. COSMIC BOOM, BEST ELEVEN and TIME AFTER TIME were sent for sampling.
