FRIENDS OF YAN OI was slow to begin and then shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with the hindquarters of CHINA POWER which became unbalanced. HAPPY AMBASSADOR was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was momentarily crowded for room inside TURF MAGIC which shifted in. From wide barriers, PERFECT GEAR and NOBODY BUT YOU were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, FLYING TOGETHER got its head on the side and hung out. FLYING TOGETHER continued to hang out making the Home Turn and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of FLYING TOGETHER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING TOGETHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 400 Metres, SUPREME JEWELLERY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING TOGETHER which was commencing to give ground. N Callan (PERFECT GEAR) dropped his left rein approaching the 200 Metres. After the 100 Metres, PERFECT GEAR was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between FRIENDS OF YAN OI and TURF MAGIC. Because of this, PERFECT GEAR was not able to be properly tested over the concluding stages. Throughout the race, SUPREME JEWELLERY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, B Prebble stated that he had been instructed to ride SUPER PLUS in a midfield position with cover if possible as there were horses drawn in better barriers which possess good speed. He said after beginning well he commenced to shift SUPER PLUS behind runners and making the first turn attempted to obtain a position with cover behind FRESH AIR. He said however that at this time PERFECT GEAR was ridden to improve its position to the inside of SUPER PLUS and he was not able to shift SUPER PLUS in behind FRESH AIR before PERFECT GEAR improved its position. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres SUPER PLUS got its head on the side and wanted to shift out away from horses which made it difficult for him to attempt to shift SUPER PLUS in to obtain cover. He said after this SUPER PLUS continued to prove difficult to settle, got its head on the side and wanted to shift out. He added because of the circumstances of the race SUPER PLUS was then not able to finish off its race in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SUPER PLUS and FLYING TOGETHER after the race did not show any significant findings. TURF MAGIC, MR VIGOROUS and CHINA POWER were sent for sampling.
