From the outside barrier, ELEGANCE KLAMMER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Also from a wide barrier, BERNARD’S CHOICE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Soon after the start, LOVING STAR was hampered when crowded for room between WAH MAY STAR and GOOD STRIKE which shifted in after bumping with DANZULU. Near the 600 Metres, LOVING STAR got its head up when being checked away from the heels of VIVA FREEDOM. In this incident, LOVING STAR shifted out and bumped DANZULU. Near the 350 Metres, WAH MAY STAR raced in restricted room between SHAHJEE and HAPPY AMBASSADOR which shifted in. VIVA FREEDOM was unable to obtain clear running until near the 100 Metres. Because of this, VIVA FREEDOM was not able to be properly tested. Near the 100 Metres, the whip of Apprentice T H So (MR VIGOROUS) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of Apprentice C Y Ho (SUPREME FLIGHT). Throughout the race, SHAHJEE travelled three wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice T H So said that rounding the Home Turn MR VIGOROUS got its head on the side and lay out. He said he attempted to have MR VIGOROUS maintain its position close to the fence by placing pressure on the right rein, but despite his efforts MR VIGOROUS shifted out which allowed room for SUPREME FLIGHT to improve quickly to his inside. Apprentice So was advised that wherever possible he must make every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and which allows other runners to improve their positions. A veterinary inspection of VIVA FREEDOM after the race did not show any significant findings. WAH MAY STAR and ELEGANCE KLAMMER were sent for sampling.
