RAY’S FAVOURITE was slow to begin. On jumping, BLEDISLOE was bumped by BRIGHT SPIRITS which was taken out by SUPER SURVEYS which shifted out after being bumped by LIONS’ FORTUNE. Near the 600 Metres, SMART KIDS was steadied when crowded for room inside BINGO BINGO which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SMART GIANT. RAY’S FAVOURITE, which was following SMART KIDS, was checked in consequence. Rounding the Home Turn, DYNAMIC CROSS was steadied away from the heels of SUPER SURVEYS when being shifted to the outside of that horse. Passing the 400 Metres, BIG WINNER AGAIN was steadied when momentarily tightened for room between RAY’S FAVOURITE and DYNAMIC CROSS which shifted in. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that due to a wide barrier and the fact that BLEDISLOE had been missing the start on a number of occasions of late, it was decided to take the horse across behind runners today rather than ride it along in the early stages and risk BLEDISLOE having to cover unnecessary ground. He said when ridden quietly, BLEDISLOE finished off the race well and, in his opinion, the horse would be better suited over distances longer than that of today’s race. A veterinary inspection of SMART KIDS after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HORSESHOE FORTUNE had lost its right hind plate. JUST FANTASTIC and SMART GIANT were sent for sampling.
