PERFECT FIT was tardy to begin and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between WINDICATOR RETURNS and HORSE GALORE which shifted out after being brushed by OUTTALIMITZ. Making the turn near the 750 Metres, PROJECT RUNWAY hung in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in MAELSTROM being badly crowded for room and losing ground. OUTTALIMITZ and FINN MACCOOL, which were following, were inconvenienced as a consequence. After this, PROJECT RUNWAY continued to hang in despite the efforts of its rider which resulted in MAELSTROM being awkwardly placed for some distance. Approaching the 400 Metres, MAELSTROM again became unbalanced when continuing to race tight inside of PROJECT RUNWAY which continued to hang in. Throughout the race, CENTURY SUPER STAR travelled wide and without cover. J Lloyd explained that near the 750 Metres PERFECT FIT improved onto the heels of FIVE CLUBS and for this reason was checked. He said when PERFECT FIT was checked, it shifted out and bumped CENTURY SUPER STAR, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. He said after this he attempted to shift PERFECT FIT back in behind FIVE CLUBS which he had been following, however, PERFECT FIT did not respond and as a result was severely checked near the 650 Metres when awkwardly placed between CENTURY SUPER STAR and FIVE CLUBS. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT FIT, MAELSTROM and PROJECT RUNWAY after the race did not show any significant findings. WINDICATOR RETURNS and HORSE GALORE were sent for sampling.
