Shortly after the start, MY MEMORY shifted out and bumped BROTHERS IN ARMS. M Chadwick (GREAT LUCK) dropped his whip at the 200 Metres. When questioned, Apprentice K W Leung stated that he had been instructed to lead on GOLDEN BAUHINIA. He said his mount began awkwardly and was slow to begin, therefore he rode the horse aggressively in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said he took some time to cross BROTHERS IN ARMS to his inside which he was able to do at the 800 Metres. He said as he had established a margin over MY MEMORY which was racing on the fence, he elected to continue riding GOLDEN BAUHINIA along in an attempt to clear that horse. He said passing the 700 Metres he formed the view that he would not be able to cross that horse, therefore he allowed GOLDEN BAUHINIA to race to the outside of MY MEMORY. Apprentice Leung was advised that after crossing BROTHERS IN ARMS, his mount would have been better served by not continually being ridden along so as to afford the horse the opportunity to finish off the race. SOARING RIVER and JUMBO GOLD were sent for sampling.
