On arrival at the barriers, B Prebble, the rider of WIND DAMPER, expressed concern over the horse’s action. WIND DAMPER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, in his opinion, the horse was exhibiting restricted hindlimb action and recommended its withdrawal. Accordingly, WIND DAMPER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. WIND DAMPER was subsequently found to be displaying mild right hind lameness. Before being allowed to race again, WIND DAMPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When being loaded into the barriers, DOUBLE DRAGON made contact with the back gates. DOUBLE DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LUCKY ARMY was slow to begin and shortly after the start was crowded for room between SOLDIER and SLEEP WELL which was taken out by TYCOON TAYLOR which on jumping got its head up and shifted out. After this, TYCOON TAYLOR was ridden along to obtain a forward position, however, travelled further back than usual and travelled wide. Making the turn near the 850 Metres, DOUBLE DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of MANDARIN which shifted in when barely clear. PAR EXCELLENCE, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of DOUBLE DRAGON in consequence. A veterinary inspection of ETERNAL BEAUTY after the race did not show any significant findings. MANDARIN, FINAL ANSWER and NOBLE CHOICE were sent for sampling.
