BRAVO WINNER, which was difficult to load, will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test before being allowed to race again. As the start was effected, SOMETHING SPECIAL lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground. SABINA was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, GOLD RUSH was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1700 Metres, BRAVO WINNER was bumped by MAGIC TURBO which at this time was taken in slightly by MOONGLOW. Near the 1600 Metres, SOMETHING SPECIAL was steadied away from the heels of VISIONARIO. Also near the 1600 Metres, LUCKYME was steadied away from the heels of HO WONGCHOY when taken out by SPLENDID CHAMPION. For some distance after passing the 1000 Metres, LUCKYME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SABINA. After the 800 Metres, MOONGLOW was left racing wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, LUCKYME was steadied away from the heels of VISIONARIO which shifted out slightly. Passing the 200 Metres, both HO WONGCHOY and SABINA shifted out under pressure. H W Lai (MOONGLOW) was severely reprimanded for failing to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting out away from SABINA which itself was shifting out, resulting in BRAVO WINNER being hampered and taken wider near the 100 Metres. In the Straight, FOREST FOUNTAIN hung in and proved difficult to ride. SABINA, MOONGLOW and HO WONGCHOY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SPLENDID CHAMPION had lost its left front plate.
