Whilst in the holding stables, CHAMPION MOUNT had its right hind plate refitted. SOLAR MIGHTY, which was very fractious in the barriers, reared as the gates opened, struck its head on the overhead bar and lost a considerable amount of ground. Prior to racing again, SOLAR MIGHTY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE began awkwardly, then shortly after the start both it and FLYING IN were crowded for room between ISTIDE and CHAMPION MOUNT. Near the 800 Metres, CHAMPION MOUNT was steadied away from the heels of MY MEMORY which itself was steadied to obtain cover behind HIGH INTELLIGENT. Near the 250 Metres, Z Purton (ACHILLES OF TROY) dropped his right rein when changing his whip into his right hand. Approaching the 200 Metres, FLYING IN (G Mossé), which was shifting out to obtain clear running, was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY KINGDOM which shifted in slightly. In this incident, G Mossé dropped his whip. Near the 150 Metres, MY MEMORY was steadied away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT. For the majority of the race, ISTIDE travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR MIGHTY after the race revealed that the horse was making a heavy respiratory noise. The Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to be a “roarer”. A veterinary inspection of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP and MASCOT FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. LEGEND and REGENCY KINGDOM were sent for sampling. Upon FLYING IN being returned to its stable, it was noted by the Veterinary Surgeon that the horse was showing signs of distress and mild colic following its race. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING IN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
