WONDERSTAR (J531): Sent for sampling post-race.
LUNAR DASH (K334): After the event Z Purton stated that his mount failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight when under pressure and made a respiratory noise. Trainer M Newnham could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance but would now give the horse a break for the remainder of this racing season. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race.
BROWNNEEDSFURTHER (K325): In the early stages raced keenly. Near the 300 Metres shifted in and made contact with SMART ENGINEER. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
DIRIYA (K282): On jumping was crowded between WONDERSTAR and MIRACLE FIGHTER which shifted in. DIRIYA was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HERO SPARK (K221): Jumped only fairly. In the early stages raced ungenerously and making the first turn hung out. B Thompson (TURF PHOENIX) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of HERO SPARK, resulting in HERO SPARK losing its running and being checked. In accordance with previous practices, B Thompson was fined the sum of $20,000 in lieu of a one-day suspension. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.
LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385): Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.
MIRACLE FIGHTER (K182): Shifted in on jumping and was bumped.
SMART ENGINEER (K244): Bumped near the 300 Metres.
JUDY'S GREAT (J016): Just prior to entering the track slipped over, resulting in its rider H Bentley being dislodged. JUDY’S GREAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer immediately after the incident and again upon arrival at the starting gates and passed suitable to race. Bumped shortly after the start. After the event H Bentley stated that his mount felt free in its action whilst proceeding to the Start and during the race but the horse did not appreciate the track conditions which, whilst still rated as "Good”, had effects of some light rain which had fallen during the meeting. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TURF PHOENIX (J294): B Thompson pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 100 Metres (see HERO SPARK).
AUTUMN DELIGHT (J090): Shifted out shortly after the start and was bumped.
CALIFORNIA BLITZ (J370): Sent for sampling post-race.
