MEDIC ELITE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 5.7.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left hind leg). Before being allowed to race again, MEDIC ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the barriers, L Hewitson expressed concern regarding the action of MISTER ARM. MISTER ARM was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was lame in its right front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, MISTER ARM was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, MISTER ARM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DAILY BEAUTY jumped awkwardly and lost ground, then shifted out and made contact with SIX BEST FRIENDS. FIERY FLYING also jumped awkwardly and then was crowded by SUN OF MAKFI which shifted in. CHIRON was bumped at the start by OUR CREED. CHIRON was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the outside barrier, HEAVENLY THOUGHT was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 800 Metres, HAPPY JAI JAI was hampered and taken wider by DAILY BEAUTY (C Y Ho) which shifted out to commence a forward move. C Y Ho was reprimanded. When questioned regarding the performance of HAPPY JAI JAI, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that after being hampered approaching the 800 Metres, HAPPY JAI JAI failed to travel at any stage after that incident. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY JAI JAI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SIX BEST FRIENDS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SIX BEST FRIENDS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SIX BEST FRIENDS immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. After the race, Z Purton (BEAUTY NOVA) reported that he had to make use of his mount from a wide barrier to take up a forward position in the lead and as a result BEAUTY NOVA was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY NOVA immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY NOVA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HEAVENLY THOUGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY NOVA, JUBILATION and DAILY BEAUTY were sent for sampling.
