DELIGHTFUL LAOS stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost a significant amount of ground. Having regard to DELIGHTFUL LAOS’ previous record in respect of being slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that that horse must perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials before being permitted to race again.
SUNSHINE WARRIOR began awkwardly and lost ground.
From wide barriers, KILINDINI and SAVAQUIN were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Near the 1750 Metres, BELUGA was hampered and shifted in away from the heels of SOLAR WAI WAI (B Shinn) which shifted in before being corrected. B Shinn was severely reprimanded and told that he must exercise far more care than he did on this occasion when shifting ground. When SOLAR WAI WAI shifted in, TELECOM FIGHTERS, which was racing a number of horses away from that horse, shifted in abruptly, resulting in its rider, M Chadwick, becoming badly unbalanced.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ZEBROWSKI was left racing wide and without cover.
SAVVY NINE was held up passing the 400 Metres.
Passing the 50 Metres, SUNSHINE WARRIOR was shifted in away from the heels of FA FA to continue improving. Then close to the finishing line, SUNSHINE WARRIOR raced tight inside the heels of FA FA.
A veterinary inspection of TELECOM FIGHTERS and THE ROCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FA FA and BELUGA were sent for sampling.
