After being loaded, SURE CHAMP (K C Leung) became fractious and reared. SURE CHAMP was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After being examined by the Veterinary Officer, K C Leung’s saddle was readjusted. Before being allowed to race again, SURE CHAMP will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. LITTLE MEN began only fairly. GLOBAL FAME knuckled over at the start. From a wide barrier, DANZULU was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance after the 1000 Metres, VERY WELL became badly unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of GLOBAL FAME. Then approaching the 800 Metres, VERY WELL got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of THANKSGIVING. At the 400 Metres, MUTUAL DELIGHT was momentarily crowded for room between DANZULU and CHAMPION MOUNT which shifted in slightly when giving ground. Near the 300 Metres, MIZZEN GREY, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of APPROVE which shifted out. Throughout the race, MIZZEN GREY travelled wide and without cover. The performance of CHAMPION MOUNT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHAMPION MOUNT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CHAMPION MOUNT had lost its right front plate. CHAMPION MOUNT, LITTLE MEN and THANKSGIVING were sent for sampling.
