Just prior to the start being effected, both REGENCY KING and JUN GONG became fractious. REGENCY KING began awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside barrier, SPLENDID VICTORY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 900 Metres, SPLENDID VICTORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLASH KNIGHT. At the 800 Metres, LONGWAH SUPREME, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREEN EAGLE. Passing the 800 Metres, PRETTY ONE got its head on the side and hung out and then after the 700 Metres was taken into a three wide position by GREEN EAGLE which shifted out. Passing the 350 Metres, FLEET COMMAND became unbalanced after being bumped by FLASH KNIGHT. Near the 300 Metres, JUN GONG was shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped REAL SUPREME. Then passing the 300 Metres, REAL SUPREME, which was commencing to give ground, momentarily raced tight between MAC ROW and JUN GONG, both of which shifted ground. CHATER WAY was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, LONGWAH SUPREME was taken out by TOUR DE FORCE which shifted out to obtain clear running. After the 100 Metres, TOUR DE FORCE shifted out under pressure, resulting in its rider, D Whyte, having to change the whip into his left hand. Throughout the race, REAL SUPREME travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of REGENCY KING after the race did not show any significant findings. FLASH KNIGHT and GREEN EAGLE were sent for sampling.
