The Veterinary Officer reported that NOVEL START had a slightly swollen left hind fetlock, however, after being examined was found to be suitable to race. On arrival at the Start, it was noted that WELL FIT had lost its left front plate. This plate was refitted. WELL FIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HERO’S WIN, which was fractious in the barriers, turned its head as the start was effected and as a consequence lost ground. TURIN CHAMPION also began very awkwardly and lost ground. LUCKY FAMILY was slow to begin. Approaching the 800 Metres, after making ground quickly to the inside of the heels of SOLDIER (C W Wong), TURIN CHAMPION was checked when SOLDIER shifted in. C W Wong was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is more alert to the prospect of runners improving quickly to the inside of his mount’s heels. Making the first turn at the 600 Metres, WELL FIT hung out. As a consequence, WELL FIT then raced wide and without cover. HERO’S WIN got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in in the Straight and approaching the 100 Metres shifted in and made contact with TURIN CHAMPION which obliged its rider, J Lloyd, to stop riding and straighten HERO’S WIN. Approaching the finishing line, HERO’S WIN then improved to be racing in an awkward position on the heels of CHINA GOOD. Approaching the 200 Metres, SOLDIER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WELL FIT which shifted out. LUCKY FAMILY was held up for clear running over the concluding stages. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SPICY SHRIMP had lost both front plates and that RIDE ON THE FIRE had lost its right front plate. A veterinary inspection of TURIN CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings. RIDE ON THE FIRE, SPICY SHRIMP and SOLDIER were sent for sampling.
