After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to DIVINE TOUCH was replaced. CALIFORNIA HEART bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. TATTENHALL DELIGHT, GOOD TRIO and REDHILL COMMANDER were slow to begin. WILD ACE began awkwardly, causing G Boss, its rider, to become unbalanced. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, GREAT HERO failed to muster speed. Approaching the 1000 Metres, WILD ACE was checked to avoid the heels of JADE DANCER which shifted in away from JUST RIGHT which got its head on the side and shifted in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, JADE DANCER continued to hang in. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, MOUNT SURPLUS hung out and shifted wider on the track. After the 600 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed between GOOD TRIO and WILD ACE, then on straightening was again steadied and shifted to the outside of GRAND GENERAL to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, CALIFORNIA HEART had difficulty obtaining clear running. Throughout the race, GRAND GENERAL travelled wide and without cover. DIVINE TOUCH and GOOD TRIO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DIVINE TOUCH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of GOOD TRIO after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREMACY and GREAT HERO were sent for sampling.
