29/01/2023  Class 5  Shatin  All Weather Track    1650m   Going: GOOD  (8.81)    Rating: 040-018  

FORTUNE MARBO, which was leaning on the outside of its stall as the start was effected, began awkwardly. REGENCY GEM and MEDIC ELITE bumped on jumping. SIMPLE DOCTRINE began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in U W BROTHER being taken out onto COLOURFUL BARON which became unbalanced when crowded for room inside GOLD COMET which was also hampered. After this, SIMPLE DOCTRINE was shifted across behind runners. Also from the outside barrier, WIN WIN CHARITY was steadied for some distance in the early stages to obtain cover. After being steadied in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail, SPEED FORCE (S De Sousa) was ridden along for a considerable distance approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion to maintain its position. After the race, S De Sousa stated that SPEED FORCE was reluctant to stretch out in today’s race and did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of SPEED FORCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SPEED FORCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, LUCKY VICTOR and WAH MAY LUCK bumped as LUCKY VICTOR shifted out from behind U W BROTHER. Then passing the 700 Metres, LUCKY VICTOR became unbalanced when crowded for room between WAH MAY LUCK and U W BROTHER. Near the 650 Metres, SPEED FORCE was awkwardly placed behind EL VALIENTE. Then passing the 500 Metres, SPEED FORCE was checked away from the heels of U W BROTHER which gave ground abruptly. After this, U W BROTHER continued to give ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of U W BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of U W BROTHER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, U W BROTHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 500 Metres, RUN RUN GOOD was bumped by JUBILATION which shifted to the outside of LUCKY VICTOR in an attempt to obtain clear running. When unable to shift out, JUBILATION (Z Purton) was then awkwardly placed behind LUCKY VICTOR approaching the 400 Metres. After the race, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, JUBILATION’s performance today was due to the horse not being suited dropping back in distance. He was of the view that JUBILATION’s best performances have been in races over longer distances than that of today’s race and accordingly the horse would be better suited over further ground. A veterinary inspection of JUBILATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. At the 450 Metres, COLOURFUL BARON and LUCKY VICTOR bumped. Near the 150 Metres, L Ferraris’ riding out of EL VALIENTE was restricted when racing tight inside WAH MAY LUCK which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. The performance of WIN WIN CHARITY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. A veterinary inspection of WIN WIN CHARITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, WIN WIN CHARITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY VICTOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JUBILATION, RUN RUN GOOD and REGENCY GEM were sent for sampling.

ALL JOYFUL, which was noted to have a small abrasion to the right hind leg, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Just prior to the start being effected, ALL JOYFUL put its head down, resulting in the horse beginning only fairly. ALL JOYFUL was then crowded for room on jumping between SPANGLE FORTUNE and PRAGMATISM which was taken out by ALL IS READY which shifted out abruptly. STARSHIP EIGHTY began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between STARFIRE GEMS and SKYEY SUPREME which shifted out. NICE BIRDIE began awkwardly and then was inconvenienced by THE MULTIPLIER which shifted out. From the outside barrier, GREEN LASER was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Approaching the 1200 Metres, AMAZING TEENS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALL IS READY and was then shifted out away from the heels of that horse after the 1200 Metres. Near the 550 Metres, STARFIRE GEMS shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPANGLE FORTUNE which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. SUN OF MAKFI was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn. KILLER INSTINCT lay in under pressure in the Straight. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion PRAGMATISM immediately commenced to lay out and then hung out towards the heels of AMAZING TEENS approaching the 1400 Metres. He said after this PRAGMATISM continued to hang out badly despite his efforts and approaching the 1200 Metres lost ground after running out across the heels of AMAZING TEENS. He said he then shifted PRAGMATISM across behind KILLER INSTINCT to obtain a position closer to the rail in an attempt to have the horse travel more kindly. He said as soon as he did this PRAGMATISM immediately came under pressure and would not hold its position. He added that in the Straight PRAGMATISM gave ground noticeably and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of PRAGMATISM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The racing manners and performance of PRAGMATISM were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PRAGMATISM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, PEAK TO PEAK was reported to have sustained a mild abrasion to the right hind leg. A veterinary inspection of NICE BIRDIE and GREEN LASER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NICE BIRDIE, SKYEY SUPREME and KILLER INSTINCT were sent for sampling.

ROCK YA HEART began only fairly. POWER KOEPP shifted out at the start and bumped ORIENTAL SMOKE which in turn bumped WINNING METHOD. IMA SINGLE MAN (Apprentice Y L Chung) shifted in at the start and hampered TORONADO PHANTOM which was steadied when crowded for room outside WINNING METHOD. Apprentice Y L Chung was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. After this, TORONADO PHANTOM was steadied and shifted across behind runners. ORIENTAL SMOKE was also steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover. For some distance after the 800 Metres, POWER KOEPP travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed behind EASON. Then approaching the 600 Metres, POWER KOEPP, which was continuing to travel keenly, shifted out away from the heels of EASON and raced tight inside the hindquarters of WINNING METHOD. POWER KOEPP was then held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight and approaching the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of TORONADO PHANTOM to continue improving. Then over the concluding stages, POWER KOEPP was again unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not able to be fully tested all the way to the end of the race. At the 450 Metres, IMA SINGLE MAN, which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race, raced tight outside EASON which shifted out to obtain clear running. ROCK YA HEART was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight was awkwardly placed behind BEAUTY TYCOON when continuing to be held up for clear running behind that horse. TORONADO PHANTOM, which was following ROCK YA HEART, was shifted to the inside of that horse near the 350 Metres to obtain clear running. EASON was struck over the nose by the whip of Z Purton (ROCK YA HEART) passing the 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection of IMA SINGLE MAN and BEAUTY TYCOON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY TYCOON, TORONADO PHANTOM and TRILLION WIN were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the barriers, the tongue tie applied to ISLAND SHINE was refitted. Also on arrival at the barriers, R Maia expressed concern regarding the action of SUPER DOBBIN. The Veterinary Officer reported that after the necessary consultations SUPER DOBBIN was suitable to race. A veterinary inspection of SUPER DOBBIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOAL ORIENTED began awkwardly and shifted out across the heels of STAR ASCENSION. HAPPY FOR ALL shifted in at the start and bumped DOUBLE SHOW. Then a short distance later, HAPPY FOR ALL was brushed by DENFIELD which shifted in away from FURTHER FORWARD after initially being inconvenienced by that horse. ISLAND SHINE was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier. After beginning well, SUPER DOBBIN was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover from a wide barrier. Then approaching the 900 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 850 Metres, GOAL ORIENTED got its head up when shifting in away from the heels of SUPER DOBBIN. Passing the 400 Metres, EASY SNIP raced close to the heels of FURTHER FORWARD when being shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running. EASY SNIP was then held up for clear running until the 200 Metres. STAR ASCENSION had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 300 Metres whilst LOST CHILD had difficulty obtaining clear running after the 200 Metres. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, FURTHER FORWARD got its head on the side and lay in under pressure and proved difficult to ride. As LOST CHILD was attempting to improve into tight running between FINGERS CROSSED and FURTHER FORWARD after the 150 Metres, FURTHER FORWARD, which was continuing to lay in badly, was crowded for room inside EASY SNIP (C L Chau) which got its head on the side and commenced to lay in away from TRUST ME. Then near the 100 Metres, FURTHER FORWARD was severely checked when crowded for room between LOST CHILD which was continuing to attempt to improve into tight running between that horse and FINGERS CROSSED and EASY SNIP which, despite the efforts of its rider, got its head on the side and continued to lay in away from TRUST ME. This resulted in LOST CHILD being checked and bumping the hindquarters of FINGERS CROSSED which became unbalanced. BEAT HOLLOW, which was following FURTHER FORWARD, was shifted out a number of horses in consequence. C L Chau was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had satisfied his obligations in respect of attempting to prevent EASY SNIP from shifting ground and that there were a number of other circumstances which resulted in this incident and accordingly no further action was taken. In this incident, DENFIELD, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of FINGERS CROSSED and then was unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of FURTHER FORWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FURTHER FORWARD, HAPPY FOR ALL and EASY SNIP were sent for sampling.

ROYAL BOMB, which was leaning on the inside of its barrier as the start was effected, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of HANDSOME TWELVE. FIND MY LOVE shifted in at the start and inconvenienced NORDIC STAR. From wide barriers, SO WE JOY and LEADING FORTUNE were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BEAUTY CHAMP got its head up when awkwardly placed outside the heels of WINNING DRAGON. Making the turn after the 1400 Metres, TRADER got its head on the side and lay out. After the 550 Metres, BEAR SLAM was shifted out away from the heels of BEAUTY CHAMP which got its head on the side and shifted out away from YES WE CAN. BEAUTY CHAMP was then shifted out away from the heels of WINNING DRAGON near the 500 Metres. The performances of TRADER and NORDIC SKY, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TRADER and NORDIC SKY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of WINNING DRAGON, SATIRICAL GLORY and BEAUTY CHAMP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ROYAL BOMB and HANDSOME TWELVE were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the saddling stalls, MODEST GENTLEMAN was found to have sustained an abrasion to the right front leg. Acting on the Veterinary Officer’s advice that MODEST GENTLEMAN was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, MODEST GENTLEMAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After leaving the Parade Ring, L Ferraris was dislodged from EASY TWO without incident. As the start was effected, SPARKLING KNIGHT reared abruptly, resulting in the horse losing a significant amount of ground. Having regard to SPARKLING KNIGHT’s recent record in respect of barrier manners, the Stewards ruled that the horse must undergo a series of consecutive satisfactory barrier trials before being allowed to race again. INNOCONSTRUCTION lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between JUNEAU FLASH which shifted in and I GIVE which was bumped by ACE TALENT which itself was racing tight outside MIGHTY VALOR. CHEVAL VALIANT (L Hewitson) began awkwardly, shifted in and inconvenienced PRECISION GOAL. In this incident, L Hewitson became unbalanced. Approaching the 800 Metres, ATOMIC ENERGY shifted out and bumped I GIVE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. ATOMIC ENERGY lay in under pressure passing the 300 Metres and then got its head up and lay out towards the heels of JUNEAU FLASH passing the 150 Metres. For some distance after the 300 Metres, HUGE WIN got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. After the race, ACE TALENT was noted to have sustained a wound to the right front heel. Also after the race, EASY TWO was noted to have blood at the left nostril. An endoscopic examination conducted on EASY TWO found no evidence of blood in the upper airway and accordingly the horse was deemed not to have bled. A veterinary inspection of GREAT FOR YOU immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JUNEAU FLASH and INNOCONSTRUCTION were sent for sampling.

ROMANTIC WARRIOR stumbled at the start. From the outside barriers, PANFIELD and RUSSIAN EMPEROR were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Over the concluding stages, CALIFORNIA SPANGLE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOLDEN SIXTY. GOLDEN SIXTY and ROMANTIC WARRIOR were sent for sampling.

KARMA began only fairly. MELBOURNE HALL shifted out at the start and bumped GLUCK RACER which was then bumped on the hindquarters by WIDE BLUE WONDER which shifted in after being bumped by COURIER MARVEL which in turn was bumped by INDIGENOUS REALM. BEAUTY MISSION began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so bumped GOOD NEWS which was taken out across the running of JIANGXI STAMINA which was crowded for room inside HIGH CLOUD. After this, from a wide barrier, JIANGXI STAMINA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from the outside barrier, GOLDEN FAIRY was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Approaching the 900 Metres, MELBOURNE HALL raced close to the heels of UNPRESUMING. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, KARMA lay out and became unbalanced after bumping the hindquarters of UNPRESUMING. After this, KARMA continued to lay out making the turns and passing the 500 Metres shifted out across the heels of UNPRESUMING and in doing so bumped MELBOURNE HALL which was crowded for room inside GOOD NEWS. Near the 650 Metres, TRAVEL GOLF shifted in and bumped ON EXCEL STAR. TRAVEL GOLF then became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in HIGH CLOUD, which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race, being hampered. JIANGXI STAMINA was held up for clear running approaching and passing the 400 Metres and then near the 350 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLUCK RACER when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. JIANGXI STAMINA then lay in and continued to be awkwardly placed outside the heels of GLUCK RACER after the 300 Metres. WIDE BLUE YONDER was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and after the 400 Metres was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. Close to the finishing line, GOOD NEWS and WIDE BLUE YONDER raced tight. A veterinary inspection of GLUCK RACER, HIGH CLOUD and KARMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. UNPRESUMING and WIDE BLUE YONDER were sent for sampling.

BON’S A PEARLA bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. BON’S A PEARLA was then shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier to obtain cover. KEEFY shifted out at the start and bumped PACKING TREADMILL. GALAXY WITNESS shifted in on jumping and bumped SWEET ENCOUNTER, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. From wide barriers, IVY LEAGUE and FLAGSHIP WARRIOR were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 1500 Metres, FLAGSHIP WARRIOR raced tight outside IVY LEAGUE which shifted out when travelling keenly. Near the 1550 Metres, SWEET ENCOUNTER, which was being vigorously ridden to improve its position, was steadied away from the heels of SWORD POINT which was taken in by VOYAGE BUBBLE (J Kah) which, after initially being brushed by TUCHEL, then shifted in. J Kah was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless she must ensure that she makes every endeavour to prevent her mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. When SWEET ENCOUNTER was steadied, that horse shifted out and inconvenienced GALAXY WITNESS. VIVA CHALEUR was steadied in consequence. Near the 1500 Metres, GALAXY WITNESS was hampered when crowded for room between SWEET ENCOUNTER and LA CITY BLANCHE which was steadied when taken in by CORDYCEPS SIX (A Badel) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Badel was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future. A Badel (CORDYCEPS SIX) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SWORD POINT, resulting in that horse shifting in across the running of BEAUTYVERSE which was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Badel was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 19 February 2023 and to expire on Thursday, 23 February 2023 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Badel was fined $20,000. After the 900 Metres, FLAGSHIP WARRIOR travelled keenly. After passing the 400 Metres, SWORD POINT was inclined to lay in and was reluctant to shift out into clear running from behind KEEFY near the 200 Metres. When making ground over the concluding stages, LA CITY BLANCHE had some difficulty obtaining clear running. After the race, Z Purton stated that PACKING TREADMILL travelled keener in the run today that it had previously when ridden by him. He said PACKING TREADMILL did not quicken as well as he anticipated and over the latter stages finished the race off only fairly. He added that after the race that PACKING TREADMILL did not feel completely comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of PACKING TREADMILL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PACKING TREADMILL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of KEEFY, SWEET ENCOUNTER, FLAGSHIP WARRIOR and VIVA CHALEUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PACKING TREADMILL, VOYAGE BUBBLE and TUCHEL were sent for sampling.

KASA PAPA began only fairly and then was bumped by BEAUTY MISSILE which was directed in by JADE PHOENIX. COPARTNER AMBITION shifted out at the start and bumped CRYSTAL POWERFUL. After this, CRYSTAL POWERFUL was shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier. From the outside barriers, BEAUTY INSPIRE and PERFECT TEAM were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 1100 Metres, KASA PAPA raced in restricted room between SUPER DYNAMITE and TAMRA BLITZ which resulted in KASA PAPA shifting in and bumping the hindquarters of SUPER DYNAMITE which became unbalanced and lost ground and which also resulted in KASA PAPA losing ground. At this time, SUPER DYNAMITE was also racing in restricted room inside AMAZING VICTORY which itself was racing tight inside BEAUTY MISSILE. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider carelessness associated with this incident, no further action was taken. When KASA PAPA lost ground, BEAUTY INSPIRE was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence. When being shifted out approaching the 400 Metres, KASA PAPA clipped the heels of EN POINTE and stumbled. After this, EN POINTE gave ground. A veterinary inspection of EN POINTE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained an abrasion to the left hind leg. At the 400 Metres, PARTERRE shifted out and bumped STUNNING IMPACT. AMAZING VICTORY, which was following PARTERRE, was shifted in away from the heels of that horse passing the 400 Metres. Also at the 400 Metres, EN POINTE raced tight outside TAMRA BLITZ which was being shifted to the outside of BEAUTY MISSILE to obtain clear running. BEAUTY INSPIRE lay out under pressure in the early part of the Straight. AMAZING VICTORY was held up for clear running from passing the 350 Metres until after the 300 Metres. Throughout the race, EN POINTE travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of COPARTNER AMBITION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AMAZING VICTORY, SUPER DYNAMITE and BEAUTY MISSILE were sent for sampling.
