EMBARKED began very awkwardly and lost ground. KING TOURBILLON and BEAUTY SPIRIT bumped at the start. REGENCY MASTER was bumped on jumping by CORDYCEPS TWO which was taken in by WOODFIRE BRO. BEAUTY NOVA shifted out at the start and bumped PALACE PAL. Then from the outside barrier, PALACE PAL was shifted across behind runners. BIG BROOK began only fairly. A short distance after the start, OSCAR GLORY and V CHEVALIERS bumped. From a wide barrier, AURORA HERO was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain cover approaching the 1400 Metres, V CHEVALIERS travelled keenly. Passing the 1300 Metres, LET’S DO IT got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover. PRESIDENT’S CHOICE lost its left hind plate after the 1100 Metres. After the 700 Metres, OSCAR GLORY raced tight between BEAUTY NOVA and KING TOURBILLON which shifted out. BEAUTY NOVA was then bumped by OSCAR GLORY approaching the 600 Metres. Approaching the 350 Metres, BEAUTY NOVA was bumped by AURORA HERO (M Chadwick), which after initially attempting to shift to the outside of OSCAR GLORY, was then shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse as OSCAR GLORY shifted out marginally. M Chadwick was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he must exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Approaching the 200 Metres, AURORA HERO momentarily raced tight outside the heels of OSCAR GLORY which shifted out away from BIG BROOK which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING TOURBILLON. Near the 50 Metres, REGENCY MASTER turned its head to the right and attempted to savage OSCAR GLORY. As this was the first time that REGENCY MASTER was reported to have attempted to savage another runner in a race, Mr C S Shum, trainer of the horse, was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of REGENCY MASTER and should the horse perform in a similar manner in the future, further action may be taken. Throughout the race, WOODFIRE BRO travelled wide and without cover. The performance of BEAUTY NOVA, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY NOVA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, R Maia stated that he was instructed to ride CORDYCEPS TWO positively in the early stages in order to overcome the horse’s wide barrier. He said after riding his mount along shortly after the start, CORDYCEPS TWO was able to improve its position and after the 1400 Metres he commenced to shift the horse across in front of runners to obtain a position on the rail which he was able to do near the 1300 Metres. He said after obtaining the lead, he attempted to steady his mount with a view to getting cover if possible. He said when he steadied his mount which was travelling keenly, he received a call from the rider of the horse positioned immediately behind CORDYCEPS TWO and as he felt that he may have been placing that horse and rider in an awkward position by steadying his mount too excessively, he elected to shift away from the rail rather than have to ride his mount along as he was concerned that CORDYCEPS TWO was already racing too keenly. He said he felt that it was a better option to shift CORDYCEPS TWO out as he was of the belief that if he did ride his mount along, this would not provide CORDYCEPS TWO with the best opportunity to finish the race off. He added that as a result of shifting away from the rail, this allowed BEAUTY SPIRIT the opportunity to improve its position inside CORDYCEPS TWO which then relaxed better when able to obtain a position outside BEAUTY SPIRIT. R Maia was told that his riding of CORDYCEPS TWO after the 1300 Metres had come under notice and that it was imperative that jockeys ride in a competitive manner so as to ensure that their riding is not open to query. A veterinary inspection of OSCAR GLORY and CORDYCEPS TWO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LET’S DO IT, WOODFIRE BRO and PRESIDENT’S CHOICE were sent for sampling.

Approaching the 600 Metres, PLIKCLONE became unbalanced when bumped by HOLI MOLI which became unbalanced of its own accord and shifted in. After the 600 Metres, BOOM STITCH was awkwardly placed behind HOLI MOLI. At the entrance to the Straight, HOLI MOLI, which was being ridden along, raced in restricted room between NEW ASIA ADVANCE and PLIKCLONE which commenced to shift out to improve its position. Then approaching the 400 Metres, HOLI MOLI was momentarily eased away from the heels of PLIKCLONE. BOOM STITCH had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. GET THE MONIES was held up for clear running from passing the 400 Metres until passing the 250 Metres at which time GET THE MONIES shifted to the inside of KING ECCELLENTE and inconvenienced NEW ASIA ADVANCE. At the 250 Metres, Z Purton (TYCOON JEWELLERY) dropped his whip. Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, SUCCESS FIGHTER lay in under pressure. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TYCOON JEWELLERY, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, TYCOON JEWELLERY did not appreciate being ridden in a prominent position today. He said although the horse travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages, TYCOON JEWELLERY came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and then did not finish the race off. He said based on the manner in which TYCOON JEWELLERY weakened over the latter stages, he formed the view that the horse may be better suited by being ridden more conservatively than it was today. A veterinary inspection of TYCOON JEWELLERY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TYCOON JEWELLERY, ALL RICHES and PLIKCLONE were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the start, K H Chan expressed concern regarding the action of TEAM SPIRIT. TEAM SPIRIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Then in the Straight, TEAM SPIRIT finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of TEAM SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Having regard to TEAM SPIRIT’s record in respect of tailing out in its races during recent seasons, the Stewards will interview Mr W Y So, trainer of TEAM SPIRIT, together with the Veterinary Officer, prior to the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Wednesday, 13 July 2022 regarding the matter. In the meantime, TEAM SPIRIT is not able to be entered for the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Saturday, 16 July 2022. SPIRITED EXPRESS was slow to begin. TEAM SPIRIT was crowded for room on jumping between HIGH RISE SOLDIER and SHADOW MISSION which was taken out by XPONENTIAL. In this incident, HIGH RISE SOLDIER became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by TEAM SPIRIT. BEAUTY CHARGE was crowded for room at the start inside REVE PARISIEN (Z Purton) which shifted in when being ridden along. Z Purton was advised to exercise care. From a wide barrier, SMART IDEA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1100 Metres, BRILLIANT WAY momentarily raced tight inside XPONENTIAL which was taken in by SHADOW MISSION (H T Mo) which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening. H T Mo was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future. Near the 650 Metres, TEAM SPIRIT momentarily raced in restricted room between BRILLIANT WAY and KING LAND. The performance of SHADOW MISSION, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SHADOW MISSION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SHADOW MISSION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, A Badel (BRILLIANT WAY ) stated that at the entrance to the Straight he commenced to shift his mount to the outside of runners as he believed that the leaders may tire and as he is also of the view that BRILLIANT WAY is better suited when able to obtain clear running to the outside of horses. He said for this reason he directed BRILLIANT WAY to the outside of HARMONY N BLESSED near the 350 Metres. He said whilst KING LAND was racing behind HARMONY N BLESSED at this time, he felt that BRILLIANT WAY was travelling better than KING LAND and that he would be able to shift that horse out without having to exert too much pressure. He said whilst he was aware that a tight run was developing between HARMONY N BLESSED and MAGIC SUPREME at the time that he commenced to shift BRILLIANT WAY out, he was of the view that the better option for BRILLIANT WAY was to attempt to shift to the outside of HARMONY N BLESSED rather than be attempting to improve into very tight running inside that horse. He added that after shifting out behind HARMONY N BLESSED, he then attempted to shift KING LAND out, however, as that horse held a slight margin over BRILLIANT WAY, he was not able to create a run between KING LAND and HARMONY N BLESSED and this resulted in BRILLIANT WAY having to be checked away from the heels of HARMONY N BLESSED and KING LAND being bumped at the 300 Metres. He said he then shifted to the inside of HARMONY N BLESSED after the 250 Metres, however, that horse then shifted in which resulted in BRILLIANT WAY being held up for clear running. He said he then shifted in further to the inside of HARMONY N BLESSED near the 100 Metres, however, was again not able to obtain clear running and because of this BRILLIANT WAY was not able to be properly tested. A Badel was told that his explanation would be reported, however, he must exercise due care when attempting to make room for his mounts so as to ensure that other horses and riders are not hampered. A veterinary inspection of BRILLIANT WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The Stewards considered a complaint lodged by H T Mo (SHADOW MISSION) against A Badel (BRILLIANT WAY) in respect of a confrontation which occurred in the Jockeys’ Room following the race. After taking evidence from H T Mo, A Badel and Mr K W Tse, Jockey’s valet, the Stewards placed Jockey Badel on notice regarding his conduct and told him that whilst there was not sufficient evidence to support a charge of misconduct against him, nonetheless he must ensure that he conducts himself in an appropriate manner at all times and that any complaints that he has in respect of another rider must be directed to the Racing Stewards. REVE PARISIEN, BEAUTY CHARGE and SMART IDEA were sent for sampling.

EVERYONE’S VICTORY was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover from a wide barrier and approaching the 1150 Metres was awkwardly placed outside the heels of ELON. Also from a wide barrier, LUCKY FUN was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 800 Metres, CALL ME TEDDY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAN STAR when being shifted across behind that horse. Passing the 600 Metres, ELON and CALL ME TEDDY bumped as a result of CALL ME TEDDY shifting in marginally away from the heels of MAN STAR. After this, ELON and CALL ME TEDDY raced tight, resulting in CALL ME TEDDY becoming unbalanced passing the 500 Metres when bumped on the hindquarters by ELON which was racing tight outside CALIFORNIA CONCORD. CALL ME TEDDY was then steadied passing the 400 Metres when continuing to race tight between SUPER WIN DRAGON and ELON which was taken out marginally by CALIFORNIA CONCORD. Near the 100 Metres, the whip of Z Purton (CALL ME TEDDY) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of J Moreira (ELON). Throughout the race, MAN STAR and SUPER WIN DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of VALIANT ELEGANCE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of CALL ME TEDDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CALL ME TEDDY, JOLLY RULER and SUPER WIN DRAGON were sent for sampling.

SAUVESTRE was withdrawn on 9.7.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PRECISE EXPRESS (C Y Ho). Before being allowed to race again, SAUVESTRE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VIVA HUNTER shifted out at the start and bumped DECISIVE TWELVE which in turn shifted out and bumped KEEFY which became unbalanced. CIRCUIT THREE began only fairly. PRECISE EXPRESS was steadied in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail. From wide barriers, BEAUTY FIT and MASTER MONTARO were steadied to obtain cover. Approaching the 700 Metres, SHINING GEM was bumped by CAPTAIN WIN which shifted out away from the heels of NAVAS TWO. Rounding the Home Turn, VIVA HUNTER raced tight outside KEEFY which shifted to the outside of DECISIVE TWELVE to obtain clear running. Passing the 400 Metres, KEEFY momentarily raced in restricted room between VIVA HUNTER and DECISIVE TWELVE, both of which shifted a minimal amount of ground. In this incident, VIVA HUNTER became unbalanced after bumping with KEEFY. Passing the 200 Metres, CAPTAIN WIN was hampered when having to be shifted in to avoid the heels of VIVA HUNTER (M Chadwick) which shifted in. M Chadwick was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. Throughout the race, GLUCK RACER and SHINING GEM travelled wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if WINNER METHOD had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected, WINNER METHOD reared abruptly and got its front legs caught in the overhead barrier structure which resulted in WINNER METHOD taking no part in the race. As the Stewards were of the view that WINNER METHOD had caused its own problems as the start was effected, that horse was deemed to have been afforded a fair start and accordingly weighed-in was given on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. A veterinary inspection of WINNER METHOD immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the left front heel. Before being allowed to race again, WINNER METHOD will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CAPTAIN WIN, Z Purton stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages and only for a brief period near the 700 Metres did the horse travel keenly. He said after obtaining clear running rounding the Home Turn, CAPTAIN WIN did not quicken as he anticipated. He said although CAPTAIN WIN was hampered near the 200 Metres, he was of the view that the horse was disappointing today and the only reason he could offer for the poor performance was that the horse’s preparation had come to an end. A veterinary inspection of CAPTAIN WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of DECISIVE TWELVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CIRCUIT STELLAR and KEEFY were sent for sampling.
