When HANDSOME REBEL lost ground, HOLYSHOWCASING, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. Passing the 400 Metres, LITTLE THUNDER, when being ridden along, shifted in abruptly, requiring its rider to stop riding and correct his mount. WISDOM PATCH, which was following, was awkwardly placed behind LITTLE THUNDER in consequence. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MAGIC SUPREME, A Badel stated that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in a forward position behind the speed if possible. He said MAGIC SUPREME began awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of WISDOM PATCH, resulting in MAGIC SUPREME becoming unbalanced and losing ground. He said this resulted in MAGIC SUPREME racing further back in the field than had been intended. He said after riding his mount along shortly after the start to obtain a midfield position, MAGIC SUPREME travelled fairly making the first turn at which stage the horse became unbalanced. He said MAGIC SUPREME immediately came off the bridle and then despite being ridden along failed to finish off the race. From wide barriers, JUNEAU PARK and KING’S CAPITAL were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, KING’S CAPITAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUNEAU PARK which was being ridden along. KING’S CAPITAL was then shifted to the inside of JUNEAU PARK approaching the 1000 Metres. Near the 1000 Metres, EVERYONE’S DELIGHT was checked when crowded for room inside CHANCHENG PRINCE which was taken in by BEAUTY DAY which, after being initially directed in momentarily by HARMONY WIN WIN, then shifted in away from that horse as HARMONY WIN WIN (H Bentley) was corrected. H Bentley was told that, in the opinion of the Stewards, there were some circumstances to this incident, in particular HARMONY WIN WIN was travelling keenly at this stage and BEAUTY DAY had contributed to the incident by shifting in away from HARMONY WIN WIN, nonetheless he was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground and that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside. When EVERYONE’S DELIGHT was checked, it got its head on the side and shifted out passing the 900 Metres and bumped SPEND. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that STAR PERFORMANCE had not properly established running to the outside of CRAIG’S STAR, nonetheless M F Poon was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out under pressure and failing to correct his mount. After the race, A Hamelin (JUNEAU PARK) stated that he had to ride his mount along passing the 1200 Metres as it was reluctant to maintain its position. He said, despite being vigorously ridden out for some distance after this, JUNEAU PARK commenced to give ground and shifted ground on a number of occasions, particularly near the 1000 Metres. He said he continued to ride JUNEAU PARK along, however, the horse remained unbalanced in its action and continued to give ground and for this reason he eased it down after the 700 Metres. Before being allowed to race again, JUNEAU PARK will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, GOLFMAN STAR and STAR OF YUEN LONG travelled wide and without cover. Mr D J Hall, the trainer of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, stated that he felt that from the wide barrier too much use would have to be made of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, which was having its first race start on the All Weather surface tonight, for it to be ridden in a forward position. He said he was of the opinion that there were a number of horses engaged in tonight’s race that had shown speed in their races and therefore he instructed M F Poon, the rider of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, to shift his mount across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover which he felt would provide QUADRUPLE DOUBLE with the best opportunity to finish off the race. After the race, M L Yeung reported that TRADER was travelling strongly rounding the Home Turn, however, immediately came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight when MAN STAR commenced to improve to the outside of TRADER. He said after this TRADER gave ground noticeably and when giving ground made an abnormal breathing noise. A veterinary inspection of TRADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA CONCORD, HARMONY SPIRIT, GOLFMAN STAR and MOERAKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
