SPEED FORCE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SOCKET ELITE. From wide barriers, GREAT SMART and JIMMU were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, WELL DRAGON shifted in and bumped WICKER. Approaching and passing the 400 Metres, JIMMU was held up for clear running behind BRAVE POWER which was giving ground. The performance of RUNNING GUY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RUNNING GUY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that he was instructed to attempt to obtain a position in about midfield with cover if possible on FOX CHEUNGER which was stepping up in distance tonight. He said in the early stages he commenced to shift across to obtain a position closer to the rail and passing the 1600 Metres was racing outside RUNNING GUY. He said although it was available for him to steady FOX CHEUNGER and obtain a position behind RUNNING GUY, he was reluctant to trail that horse as he did not believe it would take him into the race. He said he therefore elected to continue to race outside RUNNING GUY in anticipation that that horse would shift across onto the rail behind SUCCESS ALLSTARS which would give him a trailing position behind SOCKET ELITE, one horse off the rail. He said although this option was available to the rider of RUNNING GUY for some distance approaching the 1300 Metres, that horse remained racing one horse off the rail and when AMAZING AGILITY improved its position to be racing inside RUNNING GUY after the 1300 Metres, this resulted in FOX CHEUNGER racing wide and without cover. He added he allowed FOX CHEUNGER to improve its position after the 900 Metres and was able to shift in to race in a two wide position passing the 600 Metres. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SUCCESS ALLSTARS, Trainer D E Ferraris stated that at its run prior to its most recent start on 4 October 2020, the horse had performed satisfactorily having run 5th. He said after having subsequently been withdrawn from a race due to lameness issue, SUCCESS ALLSTARS was required to have some time off and was not able to resume racing until 14 February 2021. He said with such a gap between races, it was not ideal for the horse’s first start back to be over 2000 Metres, however, this was the best race which was available for SUCCESS ALLSTARS and the horse subsequently finished at the tail of the field due to the distance of the race and the time off between races. He added prior to the lameness issue, given the manner in which the horse had raced on 4 October 2020, he anticipated that it would be a strong chance in its subsequent race which it was required to be withdrawn from. He said following its last start SUCCESS ALLSTARS had taken benefit from the race and its performance tonight was in keeping with its run on 4 October 2020. After the race, K C Leung (SOCKET ELITE) stated that the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance of the horse was that it did not seem to appreciate the race being run at a good tempo. He said SOCKET ELITE came under pressure passing the 700 Metres and then, despite being ridden along, did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SOCKET ELITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOCKET ELITE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOCKET ELITE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BRAVE POWER, GREAT SMART and WICKER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD DAYS, SUCCESS ALLSTARS and WELL DRAGON were sent for sampling.

SUNNY SMILE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HAPPY HOUR. SUNNY SMILE then got its head up when being steadied and shortly after the start became badly unbalanced after being bumped by BABY STORM which was taken out by EVEN KEEL. When badly unbalanced, SUNNY SMILE shifted out and bumped HAPPY HOUR. Also in this incident, BABY STORM, which was being ridden along to obtain a forward position, became unbalanced after bumping SUNNY SMILE. From wide barriers, WEALTHY EMPLOYEE, SKY GEM and JOY N FUN LEGEND were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, SOCCER MASTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAIRY FLOSS which was steadied to obtain cover behind VIRTUS STAR. Rounding the Home Turn, FAIRY FLOSS raced close to the heels of VIRTUS STAR and then on straightening was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of that horse. Also rounding the Home Turn, JOY N FUN LEGEND improved into tight running between WEALTHY EMPLOYEE and SKY GEM. Approaching the 100 Metres, BABY STORM was shifted out abruptly away from the heels of HAPPY HOUR to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, INDIGENOUS STAR travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY SMILE immediately following the race found that horse to have a continuous displacement of the soft palate. The performance of SUNNY SMILE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY SMILE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, A Badel (VIRTUS STAR) stated that after the horse performed well when ridden in a forward position last start, he recommended to connections that they considered stepping the horse up in distance in the anticipation that it would be able to again obtain a forward position and perhaps an uncontested lead. He said accordingly it was decided to enter VIRTUS STAR for tonight’s race over 1800 Metres. He said after again obtaining a forward position, VIRTUS STAR travelled very well in the early and middle stages when leading outright. He said EVEN KEEL improved its position to be racing outside VIRTUS STAR after the 600 Metres which resulted in VIRTUS STAR having to be placed under pressure earlier than what he had hoped. He added VIRTUS STAR did not quicken as anticipated and after staying on only one-paced in the early part of the Straight then weakened over the concluding stages which led him to form the opinion that the horse had not seen out the 1800 Metres of tonight’s race. He said accordingly he recommended to connections that they consider dropping the horse back in distance at its future starts and perhaps riding it more conservatively as it had also performed well previously when ridden in this manner. A veterinary inspection of VIRTUS STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that on return to Sha Tin, the horse was found to have sustained a minor laceration to the left hind heel. After the race, Z Purton stated that after coming under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn, HAPPY HOUR finished off the race satisfactorily until near the 100 Metres at which stage it became unbalanced in its action. He said after this, despite being ridden out, HAPPY HOUR commenced to give ground and therefore he did not ride it out over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY HOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY HOUR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SKY GEM, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS and JOY N FUN LEGEND were sent for sampling.

CORDYCEPS TWO began awkwardly and lost ground on jumping. VIVA CHEF shifted in at the start, resulting in COLONEL, OURGOLDENRULES and MOONLUCK all being hampered. DAY DAY RICH shifted in at the start and bumped SHENRON. After this, DAY DAY RICH was bumped by SHENRON which shifted out when being steadied to obtain cover. SUNNY AND GOLD and GOOD SHOT bumped at the start. From the outside barrier, MASTER ALBERT was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Near the 1050 Metres, COLONEL became unbalanced when being steadied to obtain cover behind SUNNY AND GOLD. After the 900 Metres, OURGOLDENRULES commenced to travel very keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MOONLUCK. OURGOLDENRULES, which continued to race keenly, was then checked away from the heels of MOONLUCK passing the 800 Metres. Approaching the 300 Metres, THE MINT was shifted in away from the heels of GOOD SHOT which shifted out. Passing the 200 Metres, VIVA CHEF momentarily raced in restricted room inside DAY DAY RICH which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Throughout the race, DAY DAY RICH travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of SUNNY AND GOLD after the 600 Metres, J Moreira stated that after leading, his mount changed stride passing the 600 Metres and then made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out about half a horse. He said he was able to shift SUNNY AND GOLD back towards the rail approaching the 500 Metres, however, after coming under pressure passing the 500 Metres, his mount again got its head on the side and lay out. He said he turned the horse’s head inwards and attempted to have SUNNY AND GOLD rail, however, it continued to lay out away from the rail and in particular lay out rounding the Home Turn which provided COLONEL the opportunity to improve to its inside rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. When SUNNY AND GOLD lay out after the 600 Metres, SPONTANEOUS was inconvenienced. A veterinary inspection of SHENRON and VIVA CHEF immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SPONTANEOUS and COLONEL were sent for sampling.

RAGING BLAZE shifted in at the start and bumped INNO LEGEND. SHOWINA began very awkwardly, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced. SHOWINA then shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in EXUBERANT being crowded for room and taken in onto E HONEY which was checked when crowded for room between EXUBERANT and PRINCE OF BON BON which shifted out. In this incident, PRINCE OF BON BON shifted out further after becoming unbalanced as a result of being bumped on the hindquarters by E HONEY. After this, from a wide barrier, E HONEY was shifted across behind runners. After being crossed by GLENEALY GENERALS approaching the 1000 Metres, RAGING BLAZE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse and in doing so was checked away from the heels of PRINCE OF BON BON. HARRIER JET, which was racing outside RAGING BLAZE, was shifted out away from that horse in consequence. As HARRIER JET was steadied after the 1000 Metres, NOBLE DESIRE, which was following HARRIER JET, was awkwardly placed behind that horse for some distance. HARRIER JET then travelled without cover until near the 500 Metres. EXUBERANT was left racing wide and without cover passing the 1000 Metres and passing the 650 Metres was ridden along to improve its position, however, continued to race wide and without cover. After the 300 Metres, INNO LEGEND raced tight inside RAGING BLAZE which got its head on the side and lay in. Then passing the 200 Metres, INNO LEGEND again raced in restricted room inside RAGING BLAZE which again got its head on the side and lay in after racing in restricted room between GLENEALY GENERALS and PRINCE OF BON BON, both of which shifted ground. After this, RAGING BLAZE was directed to the outside of PRINCE OF BON BON. After the 250 Metres, SUN OF MAKFI and NOBLE DESIRE raced tight. When questioned, A Badel stated that, in his opinion, the performance of INNO LEGEND tonight was not as disappointing as it first appeared. He said after obtaining a trailing position behind GLENEALY GENERALS in the early stages, GLENEALY GENERALS then handed up the lead to SHOWINA along the Back Straight which resulted in INNO LEGEND racing slightly further back in the field than had been anticipated. He said INNO LEGEND did not appear comfortable racing amongst horses and was reluctant to stretch out in the Straight when racing in restricted room inside RAGING BLAZE. He said whilst INNO LEGEND did not finish off the race as he anticipated, he believed that there were some circumstances in tonight’s race which resulted in the horse not being able to close off. A veterinary inspection of INNO LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SHOWINA and HARRIER JET were sent for sampling.

BULLETPROOF got its head up on jumping. VICTORIOUS SEEKER was crowded for room on jumping between EVER LAUGH and WINNING STEED which was taken out by SPRINT FORWARD. MAXIMIZE HEART shifted out at the start and bumped CHEERFUL DAYS. Shortly after the start, REGENCY MASTER was shifted in abruptly from a wide barrier to obtain a position on the rail. From wide barriers, DREAM WARRIORS, FREE FOAL and AEROSONIC were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1300 Metres, after being crossed by MAXIMIZE HEART, SPRINT FORWARD commenced to travel keenly, got its head on the side and lay out towards WINNING STEED. After the 1000 Metres, AEROSONIC travelled keenly. In the middle stages, MAXIMIZE HEART travelled keenly in the lead. Rounding the Home Turn, REGENCY MASTER was steadied away from the heels of SPRINT FORWARD when held up for clear running behind that horse. At the entrance to the Straight, BULLETPROOF and DREAM WARRIORS raced tight. Passing the 250 Metres, AEROSONIC was shifted to the outside of REGENCY MASTER after being disappointed for running inside that horse. At the 150 Metres, AEROSONIC and WINNING STEED brushed. Passing the 150 Metres, SPRINT FORWARD momentarily raced tight inside EVER LAUGH which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the tightening. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINNING STEED, C Y Ho was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s failure to run on in tonight’s race. He said after obtaining a good trailing position in the early stages, WINNING STEED travelled well. He said although the pace of the race was stronger in the middle stages than at the horse’s last start, this did not explain the manner in which it came off the bridle passing the 500 Metres. He added at its last start he formed the view that WINNING STEED was somewhat one-paced and after being placed under pressure tonight, he anticipated that it would respond to his riding, however, WINNING STEED came under heavy pressure passing the 400 Metres and then was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of WINNING STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHEERFUL DAYS and REGENCY MASTER were sent for sampling.

After being loaded into the barriers, EQUALETTA BLITZ became fractious and lunged at the front gates, resulting in the gates opening. EQUALETTA BLITZ then exited the front gates but was immediately pulled up and returned to the back of the barriers at which stage the horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, said the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, EQUALETTA BLITZ will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. STRIVE FOR GLORY was slow to begin. SICOMORO was crowded for room on jumping between MERIDIAN GENIUS which became unbalanced after being bumped by SICOMORO and STOCK LEGEND which shifted out. JAZZ STEED shifted out on jumping and inconvenienced TRANSCENDENT. From the outside barriers, TRANSCENDENT and CASIMIRO were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. When being steadied to obtain cover near the 1100 Metres, MERIDIAN GENIUS was directed out away from the heels of STOCK LEGEND which got its head on the side and shifted out. MERIDIAN GENIUS was then left racing wide and without cover passing the 800 Metres. Passing the 800 Metres, HARMONY N HOME commenced to travel keenly and shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of STOCK LEGEND. Passing the 100 Metres, STRIVE FOR GLORY was shifted in away from TRANSCENDENT which shifted in to continue improving when finishing off the race strongly. Passing the 50 Metres, ISLAND SHINE was shifted out away from the heels of STOCK LEGEND. When questioned, Mr C Fownes, the trainer of JAZZ STEED, stated that he believed that there was not a lot of pace engaged in the race and having in mind that EQUALETTA BLITZ had on occasions been unreliable at the start, he felt that as JAZZ STEED was carrying a light weight, there was an opportunity for the horse to overcome barrier 8 by being ridden in the first three rather than getting out of its ground in the early stages. He said when EQUALETTA BLITZ began well, this required more use of JAZZ STEED to clear runners to its inside than he had hoped. STOCK LEGEND and EQUALETTA BLITZ were sent for sampling.

WOOD ON FIRE began awkwardly, then shifted in and brushed JOYFUL UNION. HIGH RISE SOLDIER was crowded for room on jumping between MCLUCKY and STANLEY PARK, both of which shifted ground. SHOUSON stumbled at the start. Shortly after the start, IMA SINGLE MAN was crowded for room between KAI XIN DRAGON and BEAUTY SPARK (C Wong) which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and shifted in. In this incident, KAI XIN DRAGON became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by IMA SINGLE MAN. C Wong was reprimanded and told that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have done more than he did on this occasion to prevent his mount from shifting ground. He was further told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent causing interference to other runners in similar circumstances. From the outside barrier, DAILY BEAUTY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1050 Metres, KAI XIN DRAGON got its head up when awkwardly placed behind JOYFUL UNION. Approaching the 1000 Metres, WOOD ON FIRE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MCLUCKY (Apprentice C L Chau) which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice Chau was advised to ensure that he gives sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. JOYFUL UNION, which was following WOOD ON FIRE, was inconvenienced in consequence. Throughout the race, AQUILA travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of AQUILA immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, AQUILA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of IMA SINGLE MAN and SHOUSON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. YOUNG LEGEND and MCLUCKY were sent for sampling.

MR ALDAN shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of FANTASTIC SHOW. PRIME MINISTER was crowded for room on jumping between RIGHT HONOURABLE and FAST PACE, both of which shifted ground. After this, from wide barriers, RIGHT HONOURABLE and PRIME MINISTER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Throughout the race, FANTASTIC SHOW travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, J Moreira (CHEVALIER PRINCE) stated that on entering the Back Straight the tempo of the race steadied up and at this stage he was racing three wide following FANTASTIC SHOW which he felt would not be able to take him into the race. He said when the tempo slowed, he elected to improve his position around FANTASTIC SHOW and had intended to obtain a position outside SMILING CITY forward of FANTASTIC SHOW. He said when improving past FANTASTIC SHOW, CHEVALIER PRINCE had sufficient momentum to be able to continue forward of SMILING CITY and therefore he elected to allow his mount to obtain that running and sit outside the lead. He added after steadying CHEVALIER PRINCE outside FAST PACE, CHEVALIER PRINCE came under pressure passing the 500 Metres and after laying out rounding the Home Turn then gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of CHEVALIER PRINCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FAST PACE, GIFT OF LIFELINE and SMOOTHIES were sent for sampling.

GREEN LUCK shifted in at the start and inconvenienced TSAR and RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE which began only fairly. From wide barriers, LAKESHORE EAGLE and SAVAQUIN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching and passing the 900 Metres, TSAR travelled keenly. Rounding the Home Turn, BERLIN TANGO raced tight outside GREEN LUCK which shifted to the outside of TIANCHI MONSTER to improve. Passing the 300 Metres, RELIABLE TEAM raced tight inside MAGNIFICENT (V Borges) which got its head on the side and lay in. This resulted in RELIABLE TEAM and MAGNIFICENT bumping. After changing his whip into his right hand shortly after this, V Borges dropped his whip. C Wong (TIANCHI MONSTER) dropped his whip approaching the 250 Metres. Passing the 250 Metres, SAVAQUIN was bumped by RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE which shifted in. Passing the 150 Metres, GREEN LUCK and BERLIN TANGO raced tight. When questioned, M L Yeung stated that it was originally felt that the best option for ELITE PATCH was for that horse to be ridden in a forward positon, however, with MAGNIFICENT and RELIABLE TEAM being engaged in the race, it was believed that ELITE PATCH may get left racing wide and without cover were it to be ridden in a forward position as his mount may not have the same early speed as those horses which had previously been ridden successfully in a forward position. He said it was therefore agreed that ELITE PATCH should be steadied in the early stages and obtain a position with cover. He said when being steadied in the early stages, ELITE PATCH proved very difficult to restrain and in the early stages was left racing outside of BERLIN TANGO and then after being able to obtain a position behind that horse after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he was required to shift ELITE PATCH away from the heels of BERLIN TANGO due to the manner in which his horse was racing. He said after shifting away from the heels of BERLIN TANGO near the 1100 Metres, he then allowed ELITE PATCH to improve its position and had intended to continue forward of MAGNIFICENT and obtain a position outside the leader RELIABLE TEAM. He said as he was improving past MAGNIFICENT, that horse was ridden along to maintain its position and although he got about a length in front of MAGNIFICENT, he believed that he would have had to make a lot of use of ELITE PATCH to continue forward of MAGNIFICENT due to the manner in which the horse was being ridden to maintain its position. He added therefore he elected to remain racing in a three wide position outside MAGNIFICENT. He said ELITE PATCH came under pressure after the 500 Metres and then gave ground noticeably in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of ELITE PATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of FLYING QUEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHARITY FUN and SAVAQUIN were sent for sampling.
