01/07/2020  Class 5  Shatin  All Weather Track    1200m   Going: WET SLOW  (7.44)    Rating: 040-000  

FORTUNE BUDDY was slow to begin. EXPONENTS began awkwardly. HARBOUR ALERT shifted out at the start and bumped HEALTHY TREASURE. From wide barriers, HEALTHY TREASURE and TANG TREASURE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, EVER STRONG was steadied and shifted across behind runners after the 1100 Metres to obtain cover when racing wide. Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, ROCHFORD failed to muster speed. Passing the 150 Metres, FORTUNE BUDDY was shifted out away from the heels of HEALTHY TREASURE and EVER STRONG. For the majority of the race, CORRE RAPIDO travelled wide and without cover. The performance of JOY AVENUE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JOY AVENUE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of EVER STRONG, JOY AVENUE and HARBOUR ALERT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FORTUNE BUDDY was displaying heat stress. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE BUDDY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ADONIS, YEE CHEONG LUCKY and EXPONENTS were sent for sampling.

SHANGHAI RUSKY shifted out at the start and bumped YES WE CAN. TREASURE CHEST and BLAZING PARTNERS bumped at the start, resulting in TREASURE CHEST becoming unbalanced. BELLA BABY was checked on jumping when crowded for room between GALAXY EMPEROR and ROYAL CHOCOLATE, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, ROYAL CHOCOLATE became badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by BELLA BABY. ALL TIMES GRATEFUL began only fairly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of KELMIMI WINS. JOY MASTER began awkwardly and then, from a wide barrier, was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1100 Metres, GALAXY EMPEROR commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when obtaining cover behind FORTUNATE RUNNER. LITTLE GENERAL, which was following, was inconvenienced when racing close to the heels of GALAXY EMPEROR in consequence. After the 900 Metres, FORTUNATE RUNNER was left racing wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNATE RUNNER immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. For some distance approaching and passing the 750 Metres and again after the 600 Metres, BELLA BABY got its head up when being checked away from the heels of YES WE CAN. Approaching the 500 Metres, SOLAR BILLION was shifted out away from the heels of LITTLE GENERAL which was taken out by ALL TIMES GRATEFUL. JOY MASTER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. C Y Ho (JOY MASTER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he directed his mount to the outside of GALAXY EMPEROR when not clear of LITTLE GENERAL, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily crowded for room when taken out towards the heels of SOLAR BILLION which resulted in LITTLE GENERAL losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for the racemeeting to be conducted at Sha Tin on Sunday, 12 July 2020. As such, C Y Ho is eligible to resume race riding on Monday, 13 July 2020. In addition, Jockey Ho was fined $60,000. Near the 150 Metres, KELMIMI WINS (M L Yeung) was shifted to the outside of RED BRICK FIGHTER, resulting in YES WE CAN being inconvenienced and shifted out away from the heels of KELMIMI WINS. M L Yeung was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 100 Metres, TREASURE CHEST shifted out, resulting in BELLA BABY being momentarily crowded for room inside ROYAL CHOCOLATE. A veterinary inspection of ALL TIMES GRATEFUL, LITTLE GENERAL and SHANGHAI RUSKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TREASURE CHEST, RED BRICK FIGHTER and KELMIMI WINS were sent for sampling. <2/7/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>FORTUNATE RUNNER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse had bled from both nostrils. FORTUNATE RUNNER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNATE RUNNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

COURAGEOUS DRAGON, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 29.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of blood in trachea on scoping). GOLD 'N’ BOLD was withdrawn on 30.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LET’S TAKE IT EASY (K C Leung). Before being allowed to race again, COURAGEOUS DRAGON and GOLD 'N’ BOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, RIGHTEOUS WIN kicked out. Then, from the outside barrier, RIGHTEOUS WIN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. TOP MILITARY shifted out at the start and bumped TRIPLE TRIPLE. SEAWEED FORTUNE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHANGHAI GRACE, causing both horses to become unbalanced and SEAWEED FORTUNE to lose ground. After travelling a short distance, SHANGHAI GRACE was bumped by STOCK LEGEND which shifted in away from LET’S TAKE IT EASY. SEAWEED FORTUNE, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. LADY FIRST made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly. After the 600 Metres, ROYAL RACER was awkwardly placed behind LADY FIRST. Near the 550 Metres, LET’S TAKE IT EASY was shifted out away from the heels of SHANGHAI GRACE. STOCK LEGEND lay out rounding the Home Turn. At the entrance to the Straight, STREET SCREAM (J Moreira) and PEARL CHAMPION made contact as STREET SCREAM commenced to improve into tight running between SMART WONGCHOY and PEARL CHAMPION. STREET SCREAM then raced in restricted room between SMART WONGCHOY and PEARL CHAMPION passing the 400 Metres. After the race, J Moreira stated that STREET SCREAM was reluctant to improve between runners at this stage but then after securing clear running did not finish off the race and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of STREET SCREAM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, STREET SCREAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. In the early part of the Straight, LET’S TAKE IT EASY raced tight outside SHANGHAI GRACE which got its head on the side and lay out. LADY FIRST had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and for some distance after the 400 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PEARL CHAMPION when unable to improve between that horse and SAM’S LOVE. When questioned, B Shinn stated that in the pre-race discussions regarding how SAM’S LOVE should be ridden, it was felt that there was not a great number of speed horses involved in the race and therefore were SAM’S LOVE to be ridden back in the field, it may be disadvantaged. He said due to the anticipated lack of speed, it was decided to ride SAM’S LOVE more positively and with a view to taking up a position behind the speed if possible. He said after being able to obtain a good position behind the leaders by the 1000 Metres, SAM’S LOVE travelled fairly but then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection TOP MILITARY and RIGHTEOUS WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LADY FIRST, LEADING FORTUNE and TRIPLE TRIPLE were sent for sampling.

After being loaded into the barriers, FAST PACE became fractious and kicked out, resulting in the horse getting both hind legs over the back gates and becoming cast for some time. FAST PACE was withdrawn from the race by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Before being allowed to race again, FAST PACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After returning to the stables, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that FAST PACE was lame in its left hind leg. NATURAL STORM and CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE bumped at the start, resulting in CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE being awkwardly placed inside the heels of INDIGENOUS STAR. After this, NATURAL STORM, despite being vigorously ridden, failed to muster speed. From a wide barrier, INDIGENOUS STAR was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, CROWN AVENUE failed to muster speed and then approaching the 1400 Metres was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE (K Teetan) which shifted in when not quite clear. K Teetan was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 600 Metres, DRAGON COMMANDER got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE. Then near the 550 Metres, DRAGON COMMANDER momentarily raced in restricted room inside CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE which lay in towards the heels of SPEED FORCE. After the 600 Metres, CROWN AVENUE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NATURAL STORM. SPEED FORCE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 250 Metres, CROWN AVENUE raced tight inside NATURAL STORM. Throughout the race, KA YING BRILLIANCE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of RULE THEE, BULB ELITE and KA YING BRILLIANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. EPTIWINS, BEAUTY ANGEL and CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE were sent for sampling.

BRILLIANT began awkwardly and lost ground. MONKEY JEWELLERY and DRAGON IN FIELD bumped at the start. HAPPY VICTORY and WHISKEY NEAT bumped at the start, causing both horses to become unbalanced. From a wide barrier, SPARKLING STAR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, FORTUNE HERO and HAPPY VICTORY raced tight as FORTUNE HERO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SO AWESOME which was being steadied to obtain cover. FORTUNE HERO then made the turn passing the 900 Metres awkwardly. After the 900 Metres, VIGOR CHAMP commenced to travel keenly and lay out, resulting in ALLOY STAR being taken out onto FORTUNE HERO which raced tight inside HAPPY VICTORY. VIGOR CHAMP continued to lay out and near the 750 Metres shifted out and bumped ALLOY STAR which became unbalanced. BRILLIANT, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After this, VIGOR CHAMP continued to lay out. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TRUE LEGEND and MONKEY JEWELLERY were sent for sampling.

ELITE BOY was withdrawn on 30.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TELECOM MISSILE (Apprentice K H Chan). Before being allowed to race again, ELITE BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TELECOM MISSILE began awkwardly and lost ground. COOLCELEB shifted in at the start and bumped WONDER BRAHMA heavily. FLYING SPIRIT was steadied away from the heels of STAR SUPERIOR on jumping when that horse shifted out. WELL DRAGON shifted out at the start and lost ground when steadied away from the heels of RESOLUTE. Near the 700 Metres, THOU SHALL SING shifted out away from the heels of HANDSOME REBEL after improving to be awkwardly placed behind that horse, resulting in WONDER BRAHMA being hampered. At the 500 Metres, WONDER BRAHMA was steadied after getting its head on the side and shifting out away from ALL BEST FRIENDS which shifted out from behind WELL DRAGON to improve. At the entrance to the Straight, WAYFOONG CHARMER shifted out and brushed HANDSOME REBEL. When questioned regarding the performance of COOLCELEB, Apprentice C L Chau stated that he gave his mount a good warm up behind the barriers to ensure that it was able to take up a forward position in the early stages as instructed. He said, despite this, COOLCELEB did not show any early speed and he had to ride his mount along throughout the early and middle stages to have it as close to the lead as possible. He said COOLCELEB did not show the amount of speed that was anticipated and consequently travelled in a midfield position, wide and without cover throughout the race. He added after being off the bridle throughout the race, COOLCELEB then finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of COOLCELEB immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. After the race, Z Purton reported that NAMJONG SINGS travelled well in the lead in the early and middle stages. He said the horse came under pressure at the 400 Metres and when asked to quicken did not respond to his riding as anticipated. He said NAMJONG SINGS held its position satisfactorily until the 200 Metres, however, over the latter stages of the race gave ground noticeably. He added when returning to the unsaddling area, NAMJONG SINGS did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG SINGS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, NAMJONG SINGS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FLYING SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of WONDER BRAHMA immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. COOLCELEB, THOU SHALL SING and STAR SUPERIOR were sent for sampling. <2/7/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>WONDER BRAHMA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. On arrival at the barriers, Apprentice C L Chau expressed concern regarding the action of JOLLY GOOD HEART. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY GOOD HEART found the horse to be lame in the left front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, JOLLY GOOD HEART was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GOOD HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINNING ENDEAVOUR began only fairly and then was crowded for room between PRIVATE COUNCIL which shifted in after being brushed by HELAKU KNIGHT and TELECOM PUMA which shifted out. HAPPY FORTUNE shifted out at the start and inconvenienced EXCELLENT PROPOSAL. HAPPY FORTUNE was then steadied to obtain cover. Approaching the 350 Metres, PRIVATE COUNCIL was shifted out abruptly away from the heels of HELAKU KNIGHT after being held up behind that horse and awkwardly placed close to its heels. When PRIVATE COUNCIL shifted out, HAPPY FORTUNE was directed out away from the heels of that horse in consequence. Throughout the race, HELAKU KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. MIG ENERGY, FALCON TURBO and EXCELLENT PROPOSAL were sent for sampling. <5/7/2020 Additional Veterinary Report from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 1 July 2020>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that LORIZ was lame in its left front leg on the day after racing. Before being allowed to race again, LORIZ will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE was slow to begin and on jumping was bumped by SAVVY NINE which was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. COLUMBUS COUNTY was crowded for room on jumping between CHAMPION SUPREME and HIGH REV, both of which shifted ground. GLORIOUS ARTIST began only fairly and after the 1500 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE got its head up when awkwardly placed behind COLUMBUS COUNTY. HIGH REV lay in under pressure in the Straight. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of V Borges (CHAMPION SUPREME), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit. After the race, M F Poon (HELLO DADDY) reported that he allowed BUTTERFIELD to cross HELLO DADDY after the 1300 Metres and then immediately shifted to the outside of that horse. He said he had intended to maintain his position outside and behind BUTTERFIELD, however, when GLORIOUS ARTIST improved its position outside HELLO DADDY after the 1100 Metres, HELLO DADDY commenced to travel keenly. He said approaching the 1000 Metres he took another hold of HELLO DADDY in an attempt to have it settle and remain racing outside BUTTERFIELD, however, HELLO DADDY would not relax and therefore he allowed his mount some rein to improve its position into the lead passing the 800 Metres. Also after the race, A Hamelin was not able to provide any excuses for the disappointing performance of NICCONI EXPRESS. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily at the rear of the field, however, after being asked to quicken passing the 500 Metres did not respond to his riding and then failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of NICCONI EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of RIGHT CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. COLUMBUS COUNTY and BUTTERFIELD were sent for sampling.

BIG BROOK was withdrawn on 29.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory infection). Before being allowed to race again, BIG BROOK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DELIGHTFUL LAOS began only fairly and then in the early stages was shifted across behind runners. CHEERFUL LEADER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PRECISE EXPRESS. After this, PRECISE EXPRESS was shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail. Shortly after the start, WIND GLIDER shifted out and made contact with RED ELYSEES. Also shortly after the start, JOLLY HONOUR and DECISIVE ACTION bumped. DECISIVE ACTION consequently became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped KIRAM which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EVER LAUGH. From a wide barrier, EVERYONE’S JOY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. After the 1300 Metres, DECISIVE ACTION travelled keenly and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind RED ELYSEES. Near the 900 Metres, KIRAM was left racing wide and without cover. Rounding the Home Turn, CHEERFUL LEADER and RED ELYSEES raced tight as RED ELYSEES shifted to the outside of KIRAM to obtain clear running. WIND GLIDER had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 400 Metres, PRECISE EXPRESS was shifted to the inside of EASY GO EASY WIN after being disappointed for running between that horse and DECISIVE ACTION which shifted in. Passing the 300 Metres, KIRAM, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of JOLLY HONOUR which was taken out by EVER LAUGH. Passing the 200 Metres, EASY GO EASY WIN shifted out, requiring its rider, Apprentice C L Chau, to stop riding and straighten his mount. After correcting EASY GO EASY WIN, Apprentice Chau dropped his whip. EASY GO EASY WIN then lay out over the concluding stages. Close to the finishing line, CHEERFUL LEADER was steadied away from the heels of EVER LAUGH (Apprentice C Wong) which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care. After the race, K Teetan stated that he was happy with the way that DELIGHTFUL LAOS travelled in the early and middle stages, however, the horse was not able to quicken rounding the Home Turn with CHEERFUL LEADER, a horse he had been following. He said when placed under pressure in the Straight, DELIGHTFUL LAOS finished off the race only one-paced. A veterinary inspection of DELIGHTFUL LAOS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the performance of DECISIVE ACTION, J Moreira stated that although his mount was inclined to travel keenly in the early stages, DECISIVE ACTION relaxed nicely after the 1200 Metres and then travelled well. He said he anticipated that the horse would close off the race strongly when placed under pressure, however, after obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight did not quicken when asked and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of DECISIVE ACTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHEERFUL LEADER, PRECISE EXPRESS and EASY GO EASY WIN were sent for sampling.

TRUST ME and SEVEN HEAVENS bumped at the start. After being shifted across behind runners, TRUST ME was then vigorously ridden in the early and middle stages to improve its position. STORM WARNINGS shifted in on jumping and bumped CALIFORNIA ARCHER. HAPPY QIJI was crowded for room on jumping between WAR OF COURAGE and METRO WARRIOR which shifted in. TAKINGUFURTHER shifted out at the start and bumped SUPER COMMANDER which was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of CUE THE MUSIC. Near the 750 Metres, SUPER COMMANDER raced tight outside CUE THE MUSIC which raced tight outside METRO WARRIOR. Over the concluding stages, WAR OF COURAGE lay out under pressure. The performance of GOOD LUCK CHARM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD LUCK CHARM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GOOD LUCK CHARM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, H T Mo (BALTIC WHISPER) stated that the horse was always under pressure throughout the race and did not travel well. A veterinary inspection of BALTIC WHISPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING DREAMER and METRO WARRIOR were sent for sampling.
