DRAGON BOLT began very awkwardly and then became badly unbalanced in its action a short distance after the start and attempted to buck for some distance. This resulted in DRAGON BOLT being retired out of the race in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON BOLT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BLINK OF A SECOND began awkwardly. Passing the 1100 Metres, MOTHER WISHES shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of FLYING MONKEY, resulting in MONEY MARSHAL being crowded for room and causing BLINK OF A SECOND to become unbalanced when bumped by MONEY MARSHAL Approaching the 900 Metres, MONEY MARSHAL, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MOTHER WISHES. Then making the turn after the 900 Metres, MONEY MARSHAL lay out. Passing the 600 Metres, SEIZE THE SPIRIT raced tight between FIRE AND GOLD and SOLAR BILLION which improved into tight running between SEIZE THE SPIRIT and KWAICHUNG BROTHERS. FLYING MONKEY lay out rounding the Home Turn. In the early part of the Straight, GALAXY RACER got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Near the 300 Metres, YEE CHEONG LUCKY raced tight inside MOTHER WISHES. At the 200 Metres, SOLAR BILLION was checked away from the heels of MOTHER WISHES which was giving ground. This resulted in SOLAR BILLION then becoming awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT for a short distance after the 200 Metres. In the Straight, MONEY MARSHAL lay in under pressure. B Shinn, the rider of BLINK OF A SECOND, was fined the sum of $5,000 for using the whip over the concluding stages on a horse out of contention. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that he was instructed to ride SEIZE THE SPIRIT in about a midfield position. He said after steadying his mount in the early stages to obtain cover when the race was being run at a good tempo, SEIZE THE SPIRIT was off the bridle and he had to ride his mount along for some distance after the 1200 Metres as it was getting too far out of its ground. He said, despite being ridden along, SEIZE THE SPIRIT was reluctant to improve its position and travelled only fairly in the early stages. He added he had to continue to ride his mount along in the middle stages and after being placed under pressure in the Straight SEIZE THE SPIRIT finished off the race strongly. When questioned, K C Leung stated that he was instructed to ride MOTHER WISHES positively in the early stages and obtain a position in advance of midfield. He said after riding MOTHER WISHES along in the early stages he had to make more use of the horse than was anticipated and avoid covering unnecessary ground. He said after improving forward of MONEY MARSHAL near the 1000 Metres, MOTHER WISHES travelled only fairly in the middle stages before coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said after this MOTHER WISHES did not finish off the race. Mr W Y So, the trainer of MOTHER WISHES, stated that as the horse is somewhat one-paced, he felt it would be in the best interests of the horse if it were able to be ridden in a more forward position having in mind that it was carrying 131 lbs today. He said he did not want the horse getting too far out of its ground as being up in weight it may not be able to finish off the race as it had previously when carrying lighter weights. He said it was initially his intention for the horse to be ridden in about a midfield position or slightly in advance of midfield, however, due to the circumstances of the race MOTHER WISHES was ridden more forward than had been intended. He added it is his intention in the future to have MOTHER WISHES ridden in about a midfield position if the circumstances of the race allow. A veterinary inspection of MOTHER WISHES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GALAXY RACER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GALAXY RACER, KWAICHUNG BROTHERS and SHANGHAI RUSKY were sent for sampling. <1/6/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>MOTHER WISHES, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, MOTHER WISHES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned, B Shinn stated that the instructions he was provided today were consistent to those that he was previously provided in that he was told if JIMMU again began well and was able to obtain a forward position, then the horse should be ridden accordingly, otherwise if the horse did not begin well, to ride it more quietly. He said at its last two starts he rode JIMMU positively out of the barriers, however, the horse had been left racing wide in the early stages and therefore he elected to shift it across behind runners rather than make too much use of JIMMU to clear runners to his inside. Then for some distance approaching and passing the 500 Metres, TRUST ME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FALCON TURBO and at the entrance to the Straight shifted out away from behind that horse as FALCON TURBO improved to the outside of AMAZING KNIGHT which resulted in TRUST ME being steadied and making contact with the hindquarters of TELECOM ELITE which became unbalanced. 31/05/2020  Class 2  Shatin  Turf  B  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.73)   Rating: 100-080

LUCKY EXPRESS was crowded for room on jumping between LUCKY MORE and BALTIC SUCCESS which shifted out. ARMANDO began only fairly. HIGHLY PROACTIVE and PRECIOUS EXPRESS bumped at the start. From the outside barrier, PRECIOUS EXPRESS was then steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SPEED VISION and TEAM SPIRIT made contact at the start. TEAM SPIRIT then became unbalanced after being bumped by SPEED VISION which was taken out by CALIFORNIA WHIP. When TEAM SPIRIT lost ground, YOO YOO KING, which began only fairly, was steadied away from the heels of that horse. After this, from a wide barrier, YOO YOO KING was shifted across behind runners. Because of this, TEAM SPIRIT raced back in the field and subsequently finished tailed out in the Straight. The performance of TEAM SPIRIT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TEAM SPIRIT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Passing the 300 Metres, MR CROISSANT raced tight between LUCKY EXPRESS and LUCKY MORE which was taken out by STRONGER which shifted out marginally before being corrected by its rider. In this incident, LUCKY EXPRESS became unbalanced after making contact with MR CROISSANT. Over the concluding stages, LUCKY MORE got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. For the majority of the race, SPEED VISION travelled wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred over the concluding stages which cast sufficient doubt on whether LUCKY EXPRESS (J Moreira) should be declared the third placegetter of the race. Subsequently K Teetan, the rider of the 4th placed, ARMANDO, lodged a protest/objection against LUCKY EXPRESS alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from both parties and after viewing the videos, it was established that at about the 50 Metres ARMANDO was inconvenienced and shifted out away from the heels of LUCKY EXPRESS which shifted out under pressure before being corrected. Having regard to the neck margin between the horses at the end of the race and the fact that the incident occurred at about the 50 Metres, the Stewards could not be satisfied that had the incident not occurred, ARMANDO would have finished in front of LUCKY EXPRESS. Therefore the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge. Subsequently J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY MORE immediately following the race found that horse to be making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was unable to be conducted on LUCKY MORE due to the fractious nature of the horse both prior to and after being sedated. LUCKY EXPRESS, MR CROISSANT and ALL IN MIND were sent for sampling.
