On arrival at the Start, it was noted that LIKE THAT had blood present at its mouth. LIKE THAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. SMILING FACE shifted in at the start and bumped SEA MONARCH which in turn shifted in, resulting in ENCHANTING START, which began only fairly, being steadied. After this, SMILING FACE was steadied to obtain cover. FORTUNE TRIPLE stumbled at the start. Approaching the 1100 Metres, SUNNY STAR was shifted in away from the heels of ENCHANTING START which, after being directed in by SEA MONARCH, was then shifted in away from that horse. In the early stages, SUPER TEN was steadied to obtain cover from the outside barrier and passing the 1100 Metres got its head up when travelling keenly. Approaching the 1000 Metres, SEA MONARCH travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TINKER BELLE. SEA MONARCH was then left racing wide and without cover passing the 1000 Metres. SMILING FACE lost its right front plate near the 600 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, SMILING FACE raced greenly and lay in under pressure. After the race, C Y Ho reported that after beginning only fairly, SUNNY STAR travelled well in a midfield position. He said although the moderate tempo of the race did not suit SUNNY STAR, nonetheless the horse, in his opinion, was disappointing as it came off the bridle well before the 500 Metres. He said when shifting to the outside of SEA MONARCH at the entrance to the Straight, SUNNY STAR raced tight inside SMILING FACE and then became unbalanced after the 400 Metres as a result of contact with SMILING FACE. He added after this SUNNY STAR came under pressure and then did not finish off the race as well as it did at its only other race start. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY STAR immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNNY STAR, LIKE THAT and CHANCHENG PRINCE were sent for sampling.

TELECOM MISSILE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and was slow to begin. TAILOR MADE and MOON PEAKS bumped at the start. TAILOR MADE and LEAP OF FAITH were then crowded for room between MOON PEAKS and SHANGHAI DRAGON which initially shifted out of its own accord and then shifted out further due to contact on the hindquarters from LEAP OF FAITH. After this, despite being ridden along, MOON PEAKS failed to muster speed and a short distance after the start shifted in away from WITNESS HUNTER, resulting in TAILOR MADE racing in restricted room. NOBLE DESIRE began only fairly. From the outside barrier, SPARKY STAR was steadied to obtain cover in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain cover when racing wide passing the 1200 Metres, NOBLE DESIRE travelled keenly. ARMOR STAR lost its left front plate passing the 1200 Metres. WINS ALL travelled keenly approaching the 1100 Metres. SHANGHAI DRAGON got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. At the entrance to the Straight, CIRCUIT HASSLER and ARMOR STAR raced tight as ARMOR STAR lay out away from SHANGHAI DRAGON. Also at the entrance to the Straight, TAILOR MADE was shifted out away from the heels of LUCKY PUZZLE and then passing the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed outside that horse. Passing the 400 Metres, the whip of Apprentice C L Chau (NOBLE DESIRE) became entangled in the reins. Throughout the race, CIRCUIT HASSLER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that he was instructed to ride SO WE JOY in about 4th or 5th position from barrier 6. He said on jumping he noticed that WITNESS HUNTER, which was drawn immediately to the inside of SO WE JOY, was being hard ridden and therefore he commenced to shift SO WE JOY across behind that horse as he anticipated that WITNESS HUNTER would take up a forward position. He said however SO WE JOY was checked away from the heels of WITNESS HUNTER near the 1200 Metres which, despite being vigorously ridden along, was not able to maintain its positon and lay in which resulted in SO WE JOY being very awkwardly placed behind that horse passing the 1200 Metres. He said after this SO WE JOY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was again checked away from the heels of WITNESS HUNTER. He added when WITNESS HUNTER lost its position, SO WE JOY was taken back in the field and for this reason raced further back in the field than had been intended. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SEAWEED FORTUNE had sustained a minor laceration to the right hind coronet. SO WE JOY, ARMOR STAR and CIRCUIT HASSLER were sent for sampling.

CITY LEGEND had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Throughout the race, MONSTER KAKA travelled wide and without cover and became unbalanced passing the 200 Metres. When MONSTER KAKA became unbalanced in its action, it shifted out, resulting in SUNNY POWER having to be steadied away from the heels of that horse. A veterinary inspection of MONSTER KAKA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Passing the 150 Metres, FULL POWER raced tight inside ENJOY LIFE which shifted in. After the race, H T Mo stated that after having to ride CALIFORNIA LEGEND along for some distance in the early stages to clear runners to his inside and obtain the lead, CALIFORNIA LEGEND then did not travel strongly at any stage throughout the middle stages and after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ENJOY LIFE and FULL POWER were sent for sampling. <25/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>CALIFORNIA LEGEND, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. BIG BROOK was crowded for room on jumping between ROMANTIC COMBO and BIZ POWER which was taken in by KEEP YOU WARM which got its head on the side and shifted in. After this, BIG BROOK and BIZ POWER were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. From the outside barrier, HAPPY TIME was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. For the majority of the race, ROMANTIC COMBO travelled wide and without cover and at the 700 Metres was taken wider again by CALIFORNIA LEVEE which was taken out by GOOD LUCK FRIEND which shifted out from behind CRUISING. CALIFORNIA LEVEE then raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Approaching the 500 Metres, BIZ POWER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MOERAKI. Near the 350 Metres, WIND N GRASS raced tight inside KEEP YOU WARM which lay in. A veterinary inspection of WIND N GRASS and HAPPY TIME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD LUCK FRIEND and BIZ POWER were sent for sampling. <25/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>WIND N GRASS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SOLAR POWER was withdrawn on 23.5.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter VOYAGE STAR (A Hamelin). Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HORSE WINNINGS was slow to begin. FLYING SPIRIT and QIPAO BOSS bumped heavily at the start, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced. FLYING SPIRIT was then steadied when crowded for room between GALLANT LEGACY and VOYAGE STAR which shifted out after being bumped by FANTASTIC FABIO. SACRED TIMING lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between GOLDEN LINK and ARDENODE which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Despite being vigorously ridden for a considerable distance in the early stages, FANTASTIC FABIO failed to muster speed. Approaching the 900 Metres, HORSE WINNINGS became unbalanced in its action. Passing the 900 Metres, GOLDEN LINK got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FANTASTIC FABIO which was steadied away from the heels of GALLANT LEGACY which was steadied to avoid the heels of REGENCY POET (K Teetan) which shifted in when not properly clear. K Teetan was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. SKY DARCI was badly held up for a run from on straightening until after passing the 200 Metres at which stage the horse was shifted to the outside of REGENCY POET to obtain clear running. When SKY DARCI was shifted out, FLYING SPIRIT was inconvenienced. After racing greenly in the early and middle stages, GOLDEN LINK lay in under pressure over the final 200 Metres, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount on a number of occasions. Throughout the race, KINDA COOL travelled wide and without cover. After the race, K Teetan stated that he had to make a deal of use of REGENCY POET in the early stages to obtain a forward position from its awkward barrier. He said as a consequence REGENCY POET then came under pressure soon after straightening and weakened noticeably. A veterinary inspection of REGENCY POET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of VOYAGE STAR immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of HORSE WINNINGS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KINDA COOL, SCORES OF FUN and GOLDEN LINK were sent for sampling.

After being loaded into the barriers, FAST PACE reared and then kicked out before getting its head down and forcing its way out under the front gates, riderless. FAST PACE then proceeded for a short distance before being recaptured. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that FAST PACE was not suitable to race, it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. The Veterinary Surgeon subsequently reported that FAST PACE was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FAST PACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Z Purton was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. XPONENTIAL shifted in at the start, resulting in YEE CHEONG PEGASUS being crowded for room outside CIGAR BUDDIES which was leaning on the outside of its gate as the start was effected. SPARKLING STAR was bumped by HAPPILY FRIENDS on jumping. KA FORTUNE lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between LADY FIRST and MAJESTIC CONQUEROR which shifted in. MAJESTIC CONQUEROR was then bumped by TRUE LEGEND shortly after the start when that horse shifted in. From the outside barrier, VITAL SPRING was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 950 Metres, CIGAR BUDDIES, which was having its first race start, shifted out abruptly after being crossed by GARLIC HERO, resulting in YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and XPONENTIAL being hampered and taken wider. After this, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS was left racing wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, VITAL SPRING was shifted out away from the heels of CIGAR BUDDIES. Passing the 150 Metres, SELL MY SOLE was awkwardly placed inside TRUE LEGEND which shifted in. When questioned, Apprentice C L Chau stated that he was instructed to ride XPONENTIAL positively and obtain a forward position. He said, despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, XPONENTIAL failed to muster speed and when racing further back in the field than had been intended was hampered and taken wider near the 900 Metres. He said rather than continue to race unnecessarily wide, he steadied XPONENTIAL to obtain a trailing position behind the ultimate winner YEE CHEONG PEGASUS. He added that he placed XPONENTIAL under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and he felt that the circumstances of today’s race were the reason for the horse’s failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of XPONENTIAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and HERO STAR were sent for sampling.

At the entrance to the Straight, HELENE CHARISMA was shifted out away from the heels of TIME WARP which was giving ground. After this, TIME WARP weakened out of the race and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of TIME WARP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TIME WARP was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TIME WARP will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 400 Metres, FURORE and CHEFANO raced tight. Approaching the 300 Metres, FURORE shifted out and bumped CHEFANO, causing both horse to become unbalanced. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he was instructed to ride CHEFANO positively in the early stages to obtain a position outside TIME WARP, the anticipated leader of the race. He said he was further told to allow his mount to stride forward at the 1000 Metres to ensure that the race would be a true staying test as it was anticipated that the favourite for the race EXULTANT would have to come from behind CHEFANO. He said in the early stages, despite being ridden along, CHEFANO did not show as much early speed as EXULTANT which was drawn to its outside. He said he continued to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages, however, it became apparent to him that he would have had to make considerable use of CHEFANO in an attempt to hold out EXULTANT and consequently after travelling 200 Metres he elected to take a trailing position. He said after following EXULTANT in the early and middle stages, he shifted CHEFANO out and allowed it to improve near the 1000 Metres in order to either quicken the tempo of the race which would have allowed CHEFANO to resume its position behind EXULTANT or improve around that horse. He said when he improved to the outside of EXULTANT after the 1000 Metres, FURORE and HELENE CHARISMA were able to improve their position inside CHEFANO and he was therefore not able to shift in behind EXULTANT when that horse was ridden to maintain its position outside TIME WARP. He added CHEFANO came off the bridle passing the 800 Metres and he had to ride the horse along for some distance to maintain its position. He said this included having to use the whip on the horse prior to the 500 Metres. He said CHEFANO responded well to his riding and sustained a strong run in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of EAGLE WAY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. EXULTANT and CHEFANO were sent for sampling. <25/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>EAGLE WAY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse was found to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. EAGLE WAY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, EAGLE WAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HAPPY SEBRING stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost a considerable amount of ground. Having regard to HAPPY SEBRING’s previous record of being slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that the horse must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again. CHAMPION SUPREME was checked when crowded for room on jumping between SACRED IBIS and DUCKETT’S GROVE, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, CHAMPION SUPREME stumbled after striking heels and both SACRED IBIS and DUCKETT’S GROVE became badly unbalanced due to contact with CHAMPION SUPREME. A short distance after the start, DYNAMIC EAGLE was hampered and steadied away from the heels of TANGMERE which was taken out by WORLD FAMOUS. From the outside barrier, DEFINING MOMENT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1100 Metres, SACRED IBIS was steadied away from the heels of DUCKETT’S GROVE which was being steadied to obtain cover behind TANGMERE. SACRED IBIS lost its left hind plate passing the 1000 Metres. DUCKETT’S GROVE raced wide and without cover after the 900 Metres and then in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of DUCKETT’S GROVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DUCKETT’S GROVE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DUCKETT’S GROVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Passing the 200 Metres, CHAMPION SUPREME was shifted in away from the heels of WORLD FAMOUS which was giving ground. Throughout the race, CHARITY GO travelled wide and without cover. After the race, Apprentice C Wong stated that after travelling well when enjoying an uncontested lead, WORLD FAMOUS immediately came under pressure when ENZEMBLE moved up to race alongside WORLD FAMOUS passing the 400 Metres. He said after this WORLD FAMOUS came under heavy pressure and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of WORLD FAMOUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DEFINING MOMENT and ENZEMBLE were sent for sampling.

REGENCY BO BO stumbled badly on jumping, resulting in its rider, Z Purton, being dislodged. When REGENCY BO BO stumbled, it shifted out and inconvenienced HAPPY ALUMNI. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that REGENCY BO BO was lame in its left front leg with a laceration to the left front heel. Before being allowed to race again, REGENCY BO BO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Z Purton was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagement. FLYING VICTORY was slow to begin. LUMEN BABA and GLORIOUS LOVER bumped at the start. LUMEN BABA then became unbalanced as a result of being bumped by AMAZING CHOCOLATE which shifted out. After this, from a wide barrier, GLORIOUS LOVER was steadied and shifted across behind runners. From the outside barrier, STREET SCREAM was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, HAPPY ALUMNI travelled keenly and approaching the 1000 Metres raced in restricted room between PRIME MINISTER and AMAZING CHOCOLATE which shifted in away from the heels of LUMEN BABA. Near the 950 Metres, AMAZING CHOCOLATE was left racing wide and without cover. For some distance approaching and passing the 900 Metres, HAPPY ALUMNI raced tight between ULTIMATE GLORY and PRIME MINISTER. When the tempo of the race slackened passing the 800 Metres, BEAUTY SPIRIT shifted out away from the heels of LUMEN BABA which was awkwardly placed outside HELLO BEAUTY (Apprentice C L Chau). BEAUTY SPIRIT then improved to the outside of LUMEN BABA, resulting in AMAZING CHOCOLATE being taken wider. Apprentice Chau stated that after having to make a lot of use of HELLO BEAUTY in the early stages to cross runners to assume the lead, HELLO BEAUTY then commenced to lay out making the turn after the 900 Metres. He said by correcting HELLO BEAUTY in an endeavour to ensure that it did not continue to lay out, this resulted in the tempo of the race slackening. After viewing the videos, the Stewards accepted that Apprentice Chau had not steadied or restrained HELLO BEAUTY too abruptly in the lead, rather the pace coming off was as a result of him attempting to correct his mount and therefore no further action was taken. When the tempo slackened, FLYING VICTORY commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY near the 750 Metres. After racing in restricted room between BEAUTY SMILE and PRIME MINISTER after the 700 Metres, MERRYGOWIN was steadied approaching the 600 Metres as a result of both PRIME MINISTER and BEAUTY SMILE shifting ground. Passing the 500 Metres, PRIME MINISTER was awkwardly placed behind LUMEN BABA which lay out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY SPIRIT. Passing the 400 Metres, GLORIOUS LOVER was eased and shifted to the outside of FLYING VICTORY to obtain clear running. Near the 350 Metres, the whip of B Shinn (ULTIMATE GLORY) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of N Callan (BEAUTY SPIRIT). When questioned, J Moreira stated that when entering the track BEAUTY SMILE coughed, however, the horse then proceeded to the Start without issue. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages to obtain a position behind the speed. He said BEAUTY SMILE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HELLO BEAUTY after the 800 Metres when the pace of the race slackened, however, his mount then re-balanced and travelled satisfactorily until approaching the 500 Metres at which stage BEAUTY SMILE came under heavy pressure. He said he rode his mount along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, BEAUTY SMILE did not quicken and then passing the 300 Metres commenced to give ground. He added although he did not ride his mount out over the final 150 Metres, BEAUTY SMILE was well beaten at this stage. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY SMILE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. The performance of BEAUTY SMILE, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY SMILE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PRIME MINISTER had sustained a laceration to the right hock. A veterinary inspection of HELLO BEAUTY and HAPPY ALUMNI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY SMILE, AMAZING CHOCOLATE and FLYING VICTORY were sent for sampling.

At the entrance to the Straight, TRANSCENDENT shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY RUSH. After this, TRANSCENDENT was held up for clear running until passing the 300 Metres at which stage the horse was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. Near the 175 Metres, SUNNY BOY was shifted out away from the heels of GOOD STANDING and then passing the 150 Metres raced tight inside BAND OF BROTHERS.
