Passing the 800 Metres, GLORIAM was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, SOCCER MASTER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPICY REALLY. PLEASANT GUY was held up for clear running from the entrance to the Straight until near the 250 Metres. After the race, K Teetan stated that after being held up from passing the 400 Metres until the 250 Metres, SPICY REALLY then did not quicken when placed under pressure and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of SPICY REALLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of PLEASANT GUY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PLEASANT GUY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, KING PRINT, HAPPY WIN WIN and GALA NIGHT were hampered when crowded for room between GARLIC YEAH and DRAGON COMMANDER which began very awkwardly and shifted out. From wide barriers, CHEERFUL STAR, DEFINING MOMENT and HAPPY ROCKY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1800 Metres, KING PRINT was steadied to avoid the heels of GALA NIGHT (K C Leung) which shifted in when not properly clear before being shifted back out to relieve the tightening to KING PRINT. K C Leung was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground. GARLIC YEAH raced wide and without cover until passing the 1200 Metres. Passing the 1000 Metres, GARLIC YEAH came under pressure and commenced to lose ground abruptly, resulting in both DEFINING MOMENT and HAPPY ROCKY being checked away from the heels of that horse approaching the 800 Metres. GARLIC YEAH then continued to lose ground and was retired from the event prior to the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of GARLIC YEAH immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. Following the race, N Callan reported that GAYSON, which weakened in the Straight, felt short in its action on pulling up. A veterinary inspection of GAYSON immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GAYSON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, M Chadwick was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of HAPPY WIN WIN. Acting on this advice, BIZ POWER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, BIZ POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NUREMBERG jumped in at the start and made contact with GOOD BEAUTY on two occasions. Then despite being ridden along, GOOD BEAUTY failed to muster speed in the early stages. At the 750 Metres, HANDSOME BO BO tended to race keenly when being steadied to allow TEAM SPIRIT to cross. FANTASY and HANDSOME BO BO brushed at the 350 Metres. A veterinary inspection of TEAM SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FANTASY and HANDSOME BO BO were sent for sampling.

YES WE CAN began very awkwardly, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently missed the start. From the outside barrier, SMART CHARADE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1100 Metres, after being crossed by CARE FREE PRINCE, SO GLORIOUS shifted out off the heels of that horse. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, SO GLORIOUS got its head up and raced ungenerously when being steadied. After the 1000 Metres, IRON KING commenced to prove very difficult to settle and when being restrained away from the heels of INCANTO PREPARED shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, causing SUCCESS ALLSTARS and NATURAL STORM to be crowded for room. SUCCESS ALLSTARS and NATURAL STORM continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of IRON KING for some distance and after the 900 Metres SUCCESS ALLSTARS was restrained, shifted out and made contact with SMART CHARADE. BETTER CHOICE, which was following, was hampered in consequence. SO GLORIOUS raced ungenerously and shifted ground under pressure in the Straight. V Borges (WINNING TOGETHER) was spoken to regarding him shifting ground around the heels of SO GLORIOUS on the Home Turn, resulting in REGENCY MASTER and INCANTO PREPARED being hampered and taken wider. When questioned regarding IRON KING being ridden back in the field, G van Niekerk confirmed that his instructions were to attempt to take up a prominent position, however, IRON KING began only fairly and then did not muster speed in the initial stages despite being ridden along. He said therefore after the 1300 Metres, rather than run the risk of being caught wide and without cover, he steadied IRON KING to obtain cover which resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than had been intended. After the race, J Moreira stated that INCANTO PREPARED raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race and came under pressure prior to the Home Turn before being forced wide by runners to its inside. He said he was unable to offer any further explanation for the disappointing performance of INCANTO PREPARED which weakened in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of INCANTO PREPARED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of INCANTO PREPARED, favourite for this event, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INCANTO PREPARED will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SO GLORIOUS and WINNING TOGETHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of BETTER CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. INCANTO PREPARED, CARE FREE PRINCE and CITY LEGEND were sent for sampling. <30/3/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>WINNING TOGETHER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. WINNING TOGETHER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in both front legs. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING TOGETHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

29/03/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  A+3  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.73)   Rating: 060-040

XPONENTIAL was withdrawn on 28.3.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ARDENODE (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, XPONENTIAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPEEDY DRAGON was slow to begin. BEAUT BEAUT and HERO STAR came into contact at the start. VICTORY MASTERY shifted in at the start and inconvenienced GALLANT LEGACY. From wide barriers, STOCK LEGEND and TEAM POWER were steadied and shifted across behind runners soon after the start. SUPER EIGHTEEN travelled wide and without cover until passing the 700 Metres at which stage BEAUT BEAUT was left racing wide and without cover. Throughout the middle stages, RUN THE TABLE raced greenly and after the 700 Metres shifted in momentarily, resulting in ARDENODE being crowded for room. At the entrance to the Straight, ARDENODE got its head up and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VICTORY MASTERY which shifted to the outside of JADE PHOENIX to improve. Approaching the 300 Metres, GALLANT LEGACY was checked away from the heels of SUPER EIGHTEEN and shifted to the outside of that horse when unable to proceed into tight running between SUPER EIGHTEEN and SO AWESOME. In this incident, GALLANT LEGACY clipped the heels of SUPER EIGHTEEN and became unbalanced. Passing the 300 Metres, RUN THE TABLE was checked when crowded for room between TEAM POWER and ARDENODE which, after improving to the outside of BEAUT BEAUT, was then taken out slightly by that horse. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken. After leaving the 300 Metres, ARDENODE was checked when crowded for room between TEAM POWER and BEAUT BEAUT which, after being taken out by VICTORY MASTERY (N Callan) which shifted to the outside of the heels of JADE PHOENIX to obtain clear running, then shifted out away from that runner. In assessing this incident, the Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of ARDENODE had exacerbated the incident and that BEAUT BEAUT had also contributed by shifting away from VICTORY MASTERY, nonetheless N Callan was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the 300 Metres, SO AWESOME was steadied when disappointed for running between GOKO which shifted out marginally under pressure and SUPER EIGHTEEN which got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure. SO AWESOME then remained held up behind GOKO until passing the 100 Metres. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ARDENODE had sustained a minor laceration to the left hind fetlock. A veterinary inspection of JADE PHOENIX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JADE PHOENIX GRADE ONE and TEAM POWER were sent for sampling.

29/03/2020  Shatin  Race 6 Steward Report

29/03/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  A+3  1400m   Going: GOOD  (2.73)   Rating: 060-040

CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped THE RUNNER. From wide barriers, GENERAL CASTLEDALE and EVER STRONG were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. MISTER MONTE was also steadied to obtain cover in the early stages. After the 1300 Metres, GREEN ENVY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of DESTIN which was inclined to lay out. THE RUNNER travelled wide and without cover until the 700 Metres at which stage TELECOM ROCKET was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 150 Metres, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE shifted in and bumped TELECOM ROCKET, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. After the 100 Metres, TELECOM ROCKET (G van Niekerk) and WINWIN THIRTYTHREE again made contact due to both runners shifting slight ground. As a result of this contact, TELECOM ROCKET became unbalanced and lay out under pressure, causing WINWIN THIRTYTHREE to be inconvenienced. G van Niekerk was told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount rather than persist in using the whip. K Teetan was questioned regarding his use of the whip on WINWIN THIRTYTHREE over the final 200 Metres. He stated that when WINWIN THIRTYTHREE shifted in and made contact with TELECOM ROCKET approaching the 150 Metres, his whip made contact with the head of TELECOM ROCKET which prompted him to use his whip forward of the saddle for several strides so as to avoid making further contact with TELECOM ROCKET. He said although he made further use of the whip down the horse’s right shoulder over the concluding stages, this was caused by his mount and TELECOM ROCKET racing very tight due to TELECOM ROCKET drifting out under pressure. K Teetan was advised that the Stewards accepted his reasons for initially using his whip forward of the saddle so as to avoid making any further contact with TELECOM ROCKET and that having regard to the fact that both horses raced tight over the concluding stages, in these circumstances no action would be taken against him. He was however strongly reminded of the need to refrain from using his whip forward of the saddle so as to comply with the Rules. Following the race, Z Purton reported that after settling near midfield, he shifted SAM’S LOVE out in the early part of the Straight in order to obtain clear running. He said after improving into tight running between CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE and DESTIN approaching the 300 Metres, SAM’S LOVE appeared to falter and then became very unbalanced in its action. He said for this reason he eased the horse down over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of SAM’S LOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SAM’S LOVE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SAM’S LOVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, K C Leung stated that DESTIN did not close off the race today as it normally does and was disappointing. He said the horse had had a hard run at its last start and this may have contributed to today’s performance. A veterinary inspection of DESTIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GENERAL CASTLEDALE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL CASTLEDALE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JUNEAU PARK and TELECOM ROCKET were sent for sampling. <30/3/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>GENERAL CASTLEDALE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. GENERAL CASTLEDALE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in left front leg. As previously advised, GENERAL CASTLEDALE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

Approaching the 500 Metres, LUCKY PUZZLE, which was racing greenly, became unbalanced in its action. When TOYCOON obtained a run to the outside of HELLO BEAUTY after the 400 Metres, that horse shifted out and brushed BEAUTY ICON which in turn raced tight with PICKEN. Passing the 300 Metres, COBY BA was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of HARDLY SWEARS which shifted in slightly under pressure. Approaching and passing the 50 Metres, Z Purton, the rider of SUPERICH, was obliged to stop riding due to TOYCOON and PICKEN shifting in under pressure. A veterinary inspection of LOBO’S LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Passing the 100 Metres, HIGH REV was momentarily held up for clear running. When questioned, B Shinn stated that HIGH REV, which was backing up and dropping back in distance today, did not muster speed in the early stages and settled at the tail of the field. He said he allowed HIGH REV to gather its own momentum along the Back Straight and shifted in to make good ground inside of runners in the middle stages before closing off the race well. DUKE WAI lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently lost ground. WATER DIVINER began only fairly. CALIFORNIA WHIP shifted out at the start, resulting in HONG KONG BET being inconvenienced and taken out onto SPEEDY KING which was checked away from the heels of HONG KONG BET. MISSION TYCOON lost its left front plate approaching the 300 Metres. Passing the 300 Metres, COMPUTER PATCH shifted in and made contact with DUKE WAI which then got its head on the side and shifted in to be momentarily awkwardly placed near the heels of SPEED VISION which was giving ground. After passing the 50 Metres, GUNNISON was steadied when crowded for room inside PERFECT MATCH which was taken in by WATER DIVINER (C Y Ho). C Y Ho was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. CALIFORNIA WHIP, which was racing to the inside of GUNNISON, was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed outside the heels of HONG KONG BET. When questioned, Z Purton stated that although PERFECT MATCH was drawn awkwardly, the intention was to ride the horse in a positive manner in an endeavour to take up a forward position as is customary. He said however that as the start was effected PERFECT MATCH began awkwardly and then lost further ground when GRACEANDMERCY shifted out to its inside. He said with a number of runners to his inside all taking up prominent positions very quickly, this forced him to find cover back in the field. He said although obliged to race three wide throughout the event, PERFECT MATCH had cover at all times and when shifted to the outside of GUNNISON early in the Straight and placed under pressure, PERFECT MATCH responded only fairly and was slightly disappointing. He said the only excuse he could offer was that PERFECT MATCH was not suited by being ridden back in the field. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT MATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that at its last start when successful COMPUTER PATCH was given time to settle and closed off the race strongly to win. He said whilst the horse may have settled a little further back in the field than was anticipated today, he was asked to ride it conservatively so that it could finish off in a similar manner to that of its last start. He said COMPUTER PATCH again closed off strongly today when ridden in this manner. After the race, H W Lai reported that SPEEDY KING did not show its customary early speed and did not stretch out comfortably during the event. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GUNNISON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SPEED VISION immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small cut to the left front pastern. PERFECT MATCH, SHINING ACE and COMPUTER PATCH were sent for sampling.
