BLAZING PARTNERS began awkwardly. LUCKY STORM began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LIVERBIRD STAR which became unbalanced. After this, LUCKY STORM was shifted across behind runners. M F Poon stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to ride LUCKY STORM, which was having its first start for a new stable today, quietly in order to have the horse finish off the race strongly. He said when ridden more patiently, LUCKY STORM closed off the race satisfactorily. He added over the concluding stages LUCKY STORM was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be tested all the way to the end of the race. JOY MASTER shifted in at the start and bumped FRIENDS OF NANJING. Passing the 1300 Metres, FRIENDS OF NANJING was steadied away from the heels of GOLD VELVET (A Domeyer) which shifted in. A Domeyer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. In the middle stages, REEVE’S MUNTJAC raced with its head on the side and lay out. Throughout the race, FORTUNE WAY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of FORTUNE WAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. WILLFUL began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room on jumping between COBY WIN which shifted in after stumbling at the start and SHIMMER AND SHINE which, after beginning awkwardly, was taken out by FANTASTIC BOY. MIGHTY VALOR began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ALLIED AGILITY. After travelling a short distance, FANTASTIC BOY was momentarily crowded for room between SHIMMER AND SHINE which shifted in away from the heels of COBY WIN and STRATHALLAN. C Y Ho (ALLIED AGILITY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of VICTORY IN HAND, causing that horse to clip the heels of ALLIED AGILITY and stumble. C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 23 October 2019 and to expire on Monday, 28 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Ho was fined $25,000. Passing the 600 Metres, NO REGRETS AT ALL was shifted in away from the heels of MIGHTY VALOR which was awkwardly placed outside VICTORY POWER. EL JEFE, which was racing outside MIGHTY VALOR, was inconvenienced in consequence. Passing the 300 Metres, L Hewitson (VICTORY IN HAND) dropped his whip. When questioned regarding the performance of SHIMMER AND SHINE, J Moreira stated that the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and did not stretch out as it had when previously ridden by him. He said he had to ride SHIMMER AND SHINE along for much of the race and the horse was very disappointing in the manner in which it weakened, particularly over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of SHIMMER AND SHINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SHIMMER AND SHINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALLIED AGILITY and VICTORY POWER were sent for sampling. <14/10/2019 Additional Veterinary Report> The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALLIED AGILITY was lame in its right front leg with overreach wounds to both heels on the morning after racing. ELITE PATCH and TRIUMPHANT ARCH bumped at the start. HARBOUR ALERT shifted out on jumping and inconvenienced ENCORE BOY. JUST NOT LISTENING shifted out on jumping, resulting in STAR LUCK being bumped and crowded for room inside GENERAL DINO. After travelling a short distance, JUST NOT LISTENING shifted out and away from TRIUMPHANT ARCH, resulting in STAR LUCK again being crowded for room and losing ground inside GENERAL DINO which became unbalanced after being bumped by STAR LUCK. These incidents resulted in STAR LUCK racing towards the rear of the field in the early stages. From the outside barriers, SILVER FIG and MOST BEAUTIFUL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 800 Metres, LONDON LUCKYSTAR lay in and then despite being ridden along was reluctant to hold its position, resulting in SILVER FIG being checked away from the heels of that horse near the 700 Metres and losing ground. MOST BEAUTIFUL, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. Then when making the turn after the 700 Metres, SILVER FIG got its head on the side and lay out. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, JUST NOT LISTENING momentarily raced in restricted room between HARBOUR ALERT and TRIUMPHANT ARCH which lay out. Passing the 250 Metres, STAR LUCK got its head on the side and shifted out to be awkwardly placed behind HARBOUR ALERT. Then passing the 200 Metres, STAR LUCK was steadied when disappointed for running between HARBOUR ALERT and ELITE PATCH which shifted out marginally. This resulted in STAR LUCK becoming unbalanced and losing ground. Throughout the race, HARBOUR ALERT travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of JUST NOT LISTENING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LONDON LUCKYSTAR and STAR LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, both horses were unable to be scoped due to being fractious. 12/10/2019  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1400m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.71)   Rating: 060-040

CENTRAL EXPRESS and STARSHIP were crowded for room on jumping between KING’S RACE and SHANGHAI RUSKY which was taken in by IMPECCABLE FELLOW (N Callan) which shifted in before being straightened by its rider. N Callan was reprimanded and told to ensure that he reacts quicker to his mounts shifting ground then he did on this occasion. This incident resulted in STARSHIP being checked and losing ground. SMART ROCKET was crowded for room on jumping between FUN TIMES and KELMIMI WINS, both of which shifted ground. From wide barriers, LITTLE GENERAL and LOTUS BREEZE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from a wide barrier, VILLA FIONN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages, however, was left racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres. When being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier, KELMIMI WINS travelled keenly in the early and middle stages and passing the 800 Metres was awkwardly placed behind VILLA FIONN. When continuing to be awkwardly placed behind VILLA FIONN near the 750 Metres, KELMIMI WINS shifted in, resulting in SMART ROCKET racing in restricted room. When questioned regarding the improved performance of KING’S RACE, Mr K H Ting, the trainer of that horse, stated that at its first up run this season a lot of use had to be made of KING’S RACE in an endeavour to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said, despite being ridden along, KING’S RACE did not show as much early speed as anticipated and raced further back in the field than had been intended. He said after that race the rider explained that KING’S RACE did not travel comfortably amongst horses and accordingly he had experimented with the gear worn by KING’S RACE since its last start. He said after initially applying blinkers to the horse, KING’S RACE travelled too keenly in its work and he therefore applied sheepskin cheek pieces to the horse. He said KING’S RACE had worked particularly well with the sheepskin cheek pieces on and when the horse drew barrier 1 today, he expected that it would race well given that he anticipated the horse would be able to lead from the inside barrier. A veterinary inspection of STARSHIP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of SMART ROCKET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KING’S RACE and FUN TIMES were sent for sampling.

KHAKI shifted out at the start and bumped SIMPLE ELEGANT, causing both horses to become unbalanced. KHAKI was then steadied to obtain cover. SUNSHINE UNIVERSE and HINYUEN SWIFTNESS bumped at the start. BREAK RECORD began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from a wide barrier, GREAT SMART was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SUNSHINE UNIVERSE lost its left hind plate after the 1000 Metres. Near the 950 Metres, GOLDEN FOUR was steadied away from the heels of CARE FREE PRINCE (C Y Ho) which shifted in when barely clear. C Y Ho was advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Approaching the 900 Metres, MR MAGELLAN shifted out marginally away from the heels of SUNSHINE UNIVERSE when awkwardly placed behind that horse. When MR MAGELLAN shifted out, ABOVE, which was following, improved into tight running inside MR MAGELLAN. After briefly shifting out, MR MAGELLAN then shifted back in to assume its position behind SUNSHINE UNIVERSE which resulted in ABOVE being checked away from the heels of MR MAGELLAN passing the 900 Metres before shifting out away from the heels of that horse. The performance of GREAT SMART, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT SMART will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GREAT SMART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that CARE FREE PRINCE came under heavy pressure after the 800 Metres to maintain its position and then, despite being ridden along, would not hold its position. He said after riding CARE FREE PRINCE along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, it then gave ground noticeably after the 400 Metres. He said when losing ground, CARE FREE PRINCE did not feel comfortable in its action and for this reason he eased it down over the final 200 Metres and immediately after passing the winning post dismounted from CARE FREE PRINCE. He added whilst he was not able to detect any noticeable lameness, he felt that CARE FREE PRINCE may have been experiencing some internal issues as the horse did not travel well and then gave ground noticeably. A veterinary inspection of CARE FREE PRINCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CARE FREE PRINCE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CARE FREE PRINCE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding his riding of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS after the 900 Metres, H N Wong stated that he anticipated GINTOKI would remain racing on the rail behind SIMPLE ELEGANT as the race was being run at a good tempo. He said as he commenced to improve to race outside GINTOKI approaching the 700 Metres, that horse shifted away from the rail which resulted in HINYUEN SWIFTNESS being taken three wide and without cover. He also added that HINYUEN SWIFTNESS got its head on the side and was inclined to lay out away from GINTOKI. He said he felt that as he was already positioned to the outside of GINTOKI, he was reluctant to steady HINYUEN SWIFTNESS at that time in an attempt to obtain a position back behind GINTOKI as the horse was travelling comfortably at this stage. H N Wong was advised that he had erred in allowing HINYUEN SWIFTNESS to remain racing outside of GINTOKI rather than steadying his mount and obtaining a position with cover behind that horse as remaining to the outside of GINTOKI resulted in HINYUEN SWIFTNESS covering unnecessary ground. He was further advised to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner that they are able to save ground wherever circumstances permit. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on BREAK RECORD at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of SIMPLE ELEGANT immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SIMPLE ELEGANT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RELENTLESS ME and GOLDEN FOUR were sent for sampling.

CASA DE FORCA began only fairly. TRUST ME began very awkwardly and stumbled which resulted in the horse losing ground. LORIZ shifted in at the start and bumped DOLLAR REWARD. From a wide barrier, ALL YOU NEED was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After travelling a short distance, STAR SUPERIOR was steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier. Approaching the 1000 Metres, HAPPY HAPPY STAR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of LORIZ (Apprentice K H Chan) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice Chan was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. After this, HAPPY HAPPY STAR, despite being ridden along, gave ground and travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, ALL YOU NEED commenced to travel keenly, got its head up and lay out, resulting in the horse being awkwardly placed inside DOLLAR REWARD. After the 700 Metres, TRUST ME raced tight between GOLDEN EFFORT and WAYFOONG CHARMER which travelled wide and without cover. After racing tight outside GOLDEN EFFORT, TRUST ME was bumped by that horse which shifted out near the 600 Metres and consequently was crowded for room inside WAYFOONG CHARMER. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN EFFORT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of, LORIZ, GOLDEN EFFORT and TRUST ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GUNNAR, DOLLAR REWARD and VIVA COUNCIL were sent for sampling.

KING OPIE shifted in at the start and bumped STAR PERFORMANCE which then got its head on the side, shifted in and inconvenienced TIANCHI MONSTER. Passing the 600 Metres, ENRICHMENT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HARMONY VICTORY. After the 600 Metres, HARMONY VICTORY was momentarily awkwardly placed outside CLASSIC BEAUTY which was taken out by DOCTOR GEOFF. Rounding the Home Turn, DOCTOR GEOFF got its head on the side and lay in and passing the 400 Metres was awkwardly placed near the heels of KING OPIE. Approaching the 100 Metres, TIANCHI MONSTER was awkwardly placed outside STAR PERFORMANCE. Passing the winning post, STAR PERFORMANCE was crowded for room outside SAVVY SIX (M L Yeung) which got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. Then after the winning post, STAR PERFORMANCE was checked away from the heels of SAVVY SIX. M L Yeung was advised that whilst the worst of the interference was clearly after the winning post and whilst the Stewards accepted that SAVVY SIX had shifted out abruptly close to the finishing line, nonetheless he was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground irrespective of it being prior to or passing the winning post. A veterinary inspection of HARMONY VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KING OPIE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, KING OPIE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HARMONY VICTORY, SAVVY SIX and TIANCHI MONSTER were sent for sampling.

12/10/2019  Class 3  Shatin  Turf  C  1600m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.71)   Rating: 080-060

At declaration time, C Y Ho was declared as the rider of both EVER LAUGH and Standby Declared Starter PRECIOUSSHIP. It was established that C Y Ho had a firm commitment to ride PRECIOUSSHIP and also accepted the ride on EVER LAUGH. As such, the Stewards permitted C Schofield to be substituted as the rider of EVER LAUGH. For this declaration error, C Y Ho was fined $2,000. Just prior to the start being effected, EVER LAUGH lunged at the front gates and turned its head to the left, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, EVER LAUGH will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. FLYING QUEST shifted in at the start and hampered CHUNG WAH SPIRIT. CHAMPION SUPREME and GLORIOUS DRAGON were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. After the 1300 Metres, GLORIOUS DRAGON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DEFINING MOMENT which shifted out away from the heels of JIMMU. After this, DEFINING MOMENT continued to race close to the heels of JIMMU and after the 1200 Metres shifted out away from the heels of that horse. GLORIOUS DRAGON, which was following, was hampered in consequence and shifted out, resulting in CHUNG WAH SPIRIT being taken wider. CHUNG WAH SPIRIT was then steadied to obtain cover behind GLORIOUS DRAGON approaching the 1100 Metres. VINCY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. After the 200 Metres, GLORIOUS DRAGON raced tight outside ASSIMILATE which shifted out. Passing the 150 Metres, FLYING QUEST was held up for clear running inside DEFINING MOMENT and outside GLORIOUS DRAGON which continued to race tight outside ASSIMILATE. Then passing the 100 Metres, FLYING QUEST was steadied when racing in restricted room between GLORIOUS DRAGON and DEFINING MOMENT which shifted in marginally. Close to the finishing line, ASSIMILATE raced tight between GLORIOUS DRAGON and UNICRON JEWELLERY. FLYING QUEST lost its right front plate after the race. The performance of CHEERS VANQUISHER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHEERS VANQUISHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, R Bayliss stated that in the early part of the Straight CHAMPION SUPREME was held up for clear running behind STIMULATION and UNICRON JEWELLERY. He said he positioned CHAMPION SUPREME to improve between those horses passing the 300 Metres at which time a tight run developed between STIMULATION and UNICRON JEWELLERY. He said he hesitated for some strides passing the 300 Metres as STIMULATION and UNICRON JEWELLERY were drifting ground and he held concerns that if he attempted to improve into the tight running, a shift from either STIMULATION or UNICRON JEWELLERY would halt CHAMPION SUPREME’s momentum. He said when he was satisfied that he would be able to improve between those horses, he rode CHAMPION SUPREME vigorously approaching the 250 Metres to improve his position. When questioned, L Hewitson stated that BEAR AGAIN was left racing three wide and without cover after the 1400 Metres. He said when the race was being run at a sedate tempo, he allowed BEAR AGAIN to improve its position in order to clear BEAUTY DAY to his inside and avoid covering unnecessary ground. He said BEAR AGAIN was able to improve its position so as to clear BEAUTY DAY near the 900 Metres and in having to provide sufficient clearance to that horse, this resulted in BEAR AGAIN establishing a margin of about half a length over CHEERS VANQUISHER which was racing in the lead on the rail. He said he did consider steadying BEAR AGAIN at this time, however, he felt that restraining the horse and having it race on terms with CHEERS VANQUISHER would not have been in the best interests of BEAR AGAIN as it was travelling comfortably outside that horse. He added whilst the race after the 800 Metres was run at a faster tempo than might normally be the case, the race in the early stages was run at a particularly slow pace and therefore he was comfortable for BEAR AGAIN to race outside of and in advance of CHEERS VANQUISHER. A veterinary inspection of ASSIMILATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. BEAUTY DAY and VINCY were sent for sampling.

12/10/2019  Shatin  Race 9 Steward Report

12/10/2019  Class 2  Shatin  Turf  C  1000m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.71)   Rating: 100-080

When parading prior to the race, RED DESERT became fractious, resulting in M F Poon being dislodged without incident. As the start was effected, REFINED TREASURE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. RED DESERT began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate on jumping. Shortly after the start, STORM SIGNAL (C Y Ho) became badly unbalanced after being bumped by VOYAGE WARRIOR which was taken out by MULTIMILLION (Apprentice K H Chan) which, after shifting out at the start, then continued to shift out. In this incident, C Y Ho became unbalanced and SEVEN HEAVENS, which was racing outside STORM SIGNAL, was also hampered. Apprentice Chan was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst MULTIMILLION did shift out at the start, nonetheless he should have made a greater effort to correct his mount than he did on this occasion. When questioned, C Schofield stated that it was intended for THANKS FOREVER to be ridden in a forward position from barrier 12 and it was anticipated that THANKS FOREVER would show sufficient speed to race behind the leaders. He said THANKS FOREVER began well, however, despite being ridden along in the early stages did not show sufficient speed to be in as prominent a position as expected. He said he had to ride his mount along in the early stages to maintain its position which included slapping the horse down the shoulder with the whip on a number of occasions after the 600 Metres. He said THANKS FOREVER did not stretch out in the early and middle stages and because of this raced further back in the field than had been intended. He added THANKS FOREVER was then held up for clear running after the 300 Metres and he had to wait until SAUL’S SPECIAL weakened to his inside before he was able to shift THANKS FOREVER to the inside of CUE THE MUSIC to obtain a run. He said after obtaining clear running from the 150 Metres, THANKS FOREVER then finished off the race strongly. When questioned regarding the performance of VOYAGE WARRIOR, Z Purton stated that VOYAGE WARRIOR did not feel relaxed with MULTIMILLION racing directly to its inside. He said although the race was being run at a strong tempo, he was reluctant to steady VOYAGE WARRIOR in the early stages given that the horse had a tongue tie applied after making a breathing noise in its track work. He said although VOYAGE WARRIOR would not relax as he had hoped and the race was run at a strong tempo, nonetheless he felt that VOYAGE WARRIOR was disappointing in that it did not finish off the race over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of VOYAGE WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of REFINED TREASURE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, REFINED TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VOYAGE WARRIOR, AETHERO and BIG TIME BABY were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, SACRED IBIS was noted to have blood at its right nostril. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that SACRED IBIS was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. A subsequent endoscopic examination of SACRED IBIS deemed that horse not to have bled. Before being allowed to race again, SACRED IBIS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALCARI was very slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, ALCARI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. GUY DRAGON, CRUCIATUS and HOME WIN were all steadied from wide barriers in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 1100 Metres, GUY DRAGON commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GIFT OF LIFELINE. Near the 750 Metres, GUY DRAGON again commenced to travel very keenly and was checked away from the heels of ALCARI. After the 700 Metres, FLYING VICTORY got its head on the side and lay out when travelling close to the heels of CRAIG’S STAR. ALCARI had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. In the Straight, FLYING VICTORY lay out and passing the 150 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of PICKEN (U Rispoli) when crowded for room between that horse which shifted in marginally and TRIUMPHANT HORSE. U Rispoli was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. For the majority of the Home Straight, GUY DRAGON was unable to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be properly tested. For the majority of the race, PICKEN travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CRUCIATUS was a "roarer” which had previously been reported. CRAIG’S STAR and ALCARI were sent for sampling.
